Bought my first firearm today, a Remington 870 Express in black. So excited. Can I add a better front bead on the shotgun?

Congrats McGlovin! I just bought my first shotty the other day(870 also) I'm actually waiting for the gf to get home so I can go grab it from the PO.

Good stuff! My first new shotgun I ever bought was an 870 Express, and I still have it. Those things are indestructible. Just bought an 870 Wingmaster (100th Anniversary Edition) myself yesterday. Since that first Express I've bought and sold about 20 new guns (mostly Brownings), so this likely won't be your last new gun.

McGlovin,

You point a shotgun, you don't aim them. "A better bead" might lead someone to think you're going to tend to aim it. Unless shooting at stationary objects, the bead is just a distraction. That's why they're so small and unassuming. Some beads are even flattened, to give them a lower profile.

Unless you're just looking for bling for your toy, I'd leave it as is for now. Do some clay shooting with it and you'll see that you have to look past the end of the barrel at the target as you swing, much like pointing at the target with your arm. Your mind will "capture" the sight picture when you hit a bird. After successfully imprinting the correct sight picture for each kind of shot, you just react to them instinctively after a while.

I'm hunting turkey next month, thought a tru-glo sight might help for dim overcast days. I've only shot stationary objects so far with a buddy's 870.

Don't worry about the bead. Once you get good with a shotgun you won't even want one on there. I took the bead off of my most beloved shotgun (Mossberg 500).

Free Tip: Aim along the top of the barrel.
