...and I should have read ALL of chapter 12 of the manual before disassembly. I was working one paragraph at a time, and now have to explain to my wife how I dented the kitchen ceiling.

Please tell me I'm not the only fool to do this...PLEASE!

Guilty as charged. My kitchen ceiling has a dent from a Winchester Model 1400 magazine spring. :) Better the ceiling then my eye.

Chizzy

Um, how? The recoil spring guide rod assembly?

Yep. That tuning fork shaped guide rod.

Carefully pushed the plate forward, swiveled the upper until the muzzle was pointed towards the floor. I then grabbed the bolt and pulled back/up. The guide rod shot out, past my head and hit the ceiling. The little "nub" on the end is what made the dent. Turns out that it also broke the handle off a coffee mug on the way down when it landed in the sink.

And another sad story. After two years, I finally get organized and make a trip to the range. Decided to bring my CZ-858 out for the first time. Halfway through the second magazine...WHACK...something hits me in the head. An empty case somehow came nearly straight back into my forehead. Left a little half-moon scratch. Photo was taken a day later...looked alot more "juicy" yesterday.

Both my Ar180 and Cz858 have had their turn...now I wonder what my M14S has in store for me.

Not into the ceiling, but a spring loaded SKS bayonet off the checkbone when changing out the stock.

I wear safety glasses for all my gunsmithing now ;)

I've had the 180b's tuning fork spring out at me before. (I bet a lot of owners do that once.) The worst thing the 858 ever did to me was spit oil on my glasses. (Eyeglass cleaner and cloth are now on my range-bag check list.)

On a related note, when you field strip an AG42B, DO NOT push the little latch on the back of the dust cover :D
