Is a 10 gauge worth it?

I have a 12, 20, 28 and .410 gauge shotguns. I find them more than adequate for my shotgunning needs. A friend of mine has offered me his 10 gauge. Usually I jump on the chance to buy a new gun, but I'm saving up for another project, and don't think I'd need or use a 10 gauge. Asides from more shot, what advantage does it have over a 12, and is it worth it? Personally, I find the 12 gauge great for duck and goose hunting, and I have a rifled 12 gauge for deer slugs.

A 10ga. is a pass shooting specialist. if you hunt over decoys, no need. If you pass shoot big geese, with steel shot, there is some advantage to a 10 ga. That same advantage can be had with the new hevi shot tungsten shells in a 12.

well from what I've experianced in the pass with my 10 guage ...and my other buddies using there 12's ...it that it seems to me that I keep on knocking the ducks and geese out of the sky and the 12 's have a hard time ....not sure if it is due to having more bb's/pellets ...but it works for me ?????

Like said, pass shooting. I was shooting on a fence line under some trees. Geese were going into the field I was able to pick up a good shoot with my 10. The biggest prob is that they weigh a lot for a walking gun. Still I like mine.

You don't need a 10 gauge.

In fact, you don't need anything other than a 12, really.

I really like my ten gauges though. I've got a dickinson falcon sxs, and a 34 inch single shot that points like a dream. The big ten is alot of fun and it's really the only way to use sensibly large payloads of 000 and 0000 buckshot.

For long range waterfowl hunting the 10 gauge is the ace.The 10 gauge will handle large pay loads much better than the 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge.

I think a better question would be "Is an 8 Gauge Worth It?".

When it comes down to it you can do everything with a 12 gauge. What animal can't you take down? They are the most versatile gun by far. The reason I have 90% of my guns isn't because they are worth it or I need them specifically to hunt something. It's because I enjoy shooting different guns. If I could have a constantly rotating gun collection I definitely would. How kick ass would that be?
