I just bought a Beretta Extrema II and have a question for anybody with the same gun. I can only load two 3 1/2" shells in the mag why is that, isn't it supposed to hold 3 in the mag? Am I doing something wrong? Going to sight in tomorrow so hopefully someone can answer ASAP.

Mine holds 2+1 with the plug. 3.5" that is.

No matter what size shells you use (2.3/4- 3.1/2") there will only be 2+1
The math won't allow more or less shells in that range with that birdy plug..
Will the Beretta float the fourth? I've heard that the SBE2 will, but I'm not sure about the Benelli. Either way if the fish cop catches you, good by gun, and hunting privileges.
It's slang that has become popular on waterfowling discussion boards. With autoloaders capable of firing 3 1/2" shells it's possible to load three 3" shells in the magazine when it is plugged for two 3 1/2" shells. Although your shell capacity is technically legal when loaded with 3 1/2's the 4 3" shells makes it illegal for waterfowling.
My X2 will float the fourth though it's a year old and Beretta may have changed the bolt on newer models. The SBEII will not float the fourth, unless you JB weld the notch on the bottom of the bolt. The original SBE (HK) would float the 4th as it did not have this notch which allowed a shell to ride the rail.
There is nothing inherently illegal about floating a fourth. There is many opportunities to legally run with more then 2+1, it's up to the individual hunter to know the regulations and be in accordance with them.

No plugged shotgun will hold 3 shells, of any length, in the magazine.
Floating the 4th involves 'floating' a 4th shell in the loading port. It can be done with some Benelli, Beretta and Winchester shotguns, and it's illegal.
Yes it can be removed, but why would you want to for trap or skeet? No need to ever load more than 1 or 2 shells.
I don't mean to be a ####, but if you are new to shotgunning, I suggest learning to make the most with 1 shot, rather than increasing your capacity to shoot.
No, that is wrong. There are numerous hunting seasons (waterfowl included) where floating a fourth is completely legal. And as I stated earlier it's up to the individual hunter to know the regulations and be in compliance with them.
