I'm currently shopping for a new left handed hunting rifle. I've looked at Ruger, Savage and Tikka so far and at this point the Tikka feels the best for me. I'm not crazy about the way the stock feels in my hands though. This will be my primary hunting rifle and wouldn;t mind investing a bit more in it as I'll likely keep it forever.

I've had a couple of people tell me that they believe that Sako is still making LH rifles, but I haven't seen any in their online catalogue or on the shelves anywhere. I'm just wondering if anyone can clear this up for me. Is Sako currently making LH rifles (under their own name I mean)?

Any help or info that you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm a little confused by your post. You say the Tikka has the best feel for you, but then you say you aren't crazy about the way it feels. If it feels better than the other rifles you have handled than it is the one for you. If the handling can be improved by adjusting the stock so it fits you better, then do that. If there is nothing about the Tikka that satisfies you perhaps you should keep looking. If Sako still makes a left hand model, you could try it, and Remington 700s are available in left hand. Some folks like the Ruger #1, and that rifle doesn't care which side you shoot from.

Remington 700's come left as well. Epp's has a used(buying a used rifle isn't like buying a used car. You really have to work at damaging a modern commercial rifle.) 700 BDL in .30-06 for $679. A new CDL Classic, in .270 or .30-06, for $1173.64.
They've also got a Savage 111GLNS HUNTER in .270 for $647.94. And two 11FLNS HUNTER's in .243 and .308 for $620.88.
Sako calls a left hand action a "novelty". Their Model 85 doesn't come left. Their Model 591 and 75 did, but have been discontinued.

I am a lefty and I have to say my rifle choices are about the same as yours longarm. I also do agree that the XCR is a nice feeling rifle, particularly compared to some of the lower priced composites. However I have both an XCR and a Tikka and out of box the Tikka will out shoot the XCR every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Suspect the same is true for the Savages. It's true the Tikka isn't the most beautiful rifle, but I look at it like a tool..a tool that performs perfectly day in day out and doesn't require a bit of extra work to make it operate exactly as it should. That being said the Ruger in black (grey) laminate is one fine looking rifle and it comes in just about any calibre you would commonly want. Don't know first hand how it performs, but it sure feels like a quality piece of work. Sorry I realize that whole thing was probably zero help...I just love talking about rifles :p

Thanks for the help guys. Sorry if my initial post was a bit confusing. I should have said I like the fit, and the action of the Tikka the best. The "feel" of the stock leaves somethiing to be desired.

I have looked at a Browning "A" bolt, the it was good but wasn't crazy about the mag system. Haven't handled an "X" bolt.

As far as Remington goes, I had read some negative things about their quality control of late. Anyone had specific troubles with new Rem rifles?
