Accubond performance at lower velocities?

That is a picture perfect bullet.

Your .338 225gr AB has a BC of .550 :eek:

With a 200 yard zero it is appr 15" low @ 360 yards the velocity is still appr 2150fps and the retained energy is still 2309 ft lbs.

Amazing how a high BC bullet maintains a flat tragectory/energy.
 
Accubonds at lower velocities

Took a Mule deer last season with 130gr accubond in the 6.5x55 @ 2785 fps. deer was taken at 125 paces. The retained weight is 70.6 grains. Performed great out of this rifle and now have some loaded for the 338 win mag.

FWIW, I shot a 200gr .338 Accubond (2800fps)and a 210 Nosler Partition (2750fps) into a green(wet) chunk of poplar last spring at 25 yds out of my 338-06. The Accubond retained 75% while the Partition retained only 65% of its weight. However the Partion Penetrated about 15% farther (probably due to the larger frontal expansion of the Accubond). I know that shooting a block of wet wood doesn't simulate an animal, It was just a convenient medium to compare the two bullets side by side. I was very impressed that the Accubond held together better than the Partition. However the Partition did penetrate farther.

I did shoot a medium to large size black bear @50 yards with the 200gr Accubond last spring. Total lung devastation. Enormous exit wound. Bear only went 15 yards before dropping. I wish I could have recovered the bullet!

The shot was slightly quartering towards me, the moose was about 140 yards away and uphill at about a 10º angle. Bulllet just clipped the shoulder blade going in, broke a rib and was recovered in the liver. I will try to post a picture of what it looked like. It was fired from a 30-06, muzzle velocity of 2855 fps. My thoughts once I looked at the bullet were, What if I had hit more bone, or what if that had been my 308 Norma Mag instead of my 30-06? You nailed it Camp Cook. This is also a real bonus if you misjudge ranges. I initially thought he was only about 300yds. away and tried to hold 12" high and did hit lower than expected but still well within the Rosies fairly large kill zone. I've never shot an animal at this range before and my practicing (which I do weekly) is limited to 200 yds. on my local range. I initially purchased this gun to hunt elk in grizzly country but it is rapidly becoming one of my favorites because of how well it carries itself with various bullet weights and particularly with the 225gr. AB.

Yukonhunter, we are using very similar loads in the 6.5 ( same bullet weight and within 20 fps on the velocity) but my first muley with the 130gr. AB was a pass through:D
 
i use a 220grain acxcubond in my 338 and i find it does a worder fulljob on the game i have shot with it. i am very happy with this round but someone will find something wqrong with everything so us what you feel works best for you and your rifle .
 
According to Nosler, the Accubond is designed to perform optimal terminal ballistics between 1800-3100 fps. It is my go to bullet for short to mid-range (600 yds) hunting.

Last year I shot a moose at 504yds (measured with Leica CRF 1200) with a 300WM and AB 200grs @ 2935fps muzzle velocity. The bullet entered behind the right shoulder, pulverized the lungs and exited through the left shoulder. The moose dropped in its tracks.

I have been loading 225 grain .338 caliber accubonds in my .338 Reminton Ultra Mag since I bought it. I chronied the load at 3150 fps. I have shot three elk and two moose with this from anywhere from about 80 yards to 430 yards. Never has one been recovered and they all passed completely through. Not one animal has gone more than a few feet. These bullets are amazing. My wife shot a huge bull moose with 180 grain accubonds out of a .30-06 two years ago and it penetrated nearly three feet before exitting. Excellent bullets at almost any velocity.

Are the win Supreme Elite factory loads with nolser accubond bullets?


Red tips on the win ammo. So they look different than the nolsers web page which have white tips.
 
The Nosler Accubond is designed for controlled expansion, deep penetration and a 60-70% weight retention. Best performance should be between 1800 to 3100 fps . I am currently loading up some 180 grainers for my 300 Saum. Have not tryed these as of yet ,but expect them to be a good performer.
