How do I remove the metal hardware from my m14?

So I took off the buttplate and rear sling mount, but how do I remove the front one and the inner metal frame? Also, am I able to easily put them back in?

The front sling swivel assy is riveted on.

To take the sock liner out, unscew the two screws on the side (takes a special tool).

What are you trying to accomplish?

I wanted to take them off to strip down and refinish the stock. Looks like I'll just leave them on.

On another note, I have a spare M14 stock without hardware, where can I pick that up? That includes both sling swivels, the metal frame, and the buttplate.

Ok, for stock refinishing remove the butt plate and put masking tape over the ferule and front swivel assy. Try the EE for hardware, else you can get most of what you want from Brownell's (Pricey). PM me I may have what you are looking for.

The front ferrule is sort of a crunch fit. The only reason why you'd need to remove the 'stock liner' is because it was damaged. The Chinese epoxied them in on several guns I've seen. The Americans didn't so many will have a bit of dancing inside the inletting.

The tool to tighten up the stock liner screws is a shaft with two little pins. You can do just as well with a pair of opened-up needle nose pliers, or maybe one of those plastic trigger lock keys that looks like a looney with two points.

Yes, and screws too.

I have also seen the epoxy on several of these rifles. I beleive it is because the chu wood is so soft, it is needed to firm up the connection to keep the liner from deforming into the wood.

I think I saw some of the epoxy at the edge of part of the liner.

Also, I got most of the mystery finish(I think it is tar, lead, and blood) and put on several coats of boiled linseed oil. It looks quite a bit nicer now.
