I was searching dealers sites looking at sako 85s,and I couldn't help but notice the huge price reductions on the .260 Remingtons.I can't think of any other reason for the big price reduction, other than they aren't selling.

New ones don't seem to be moving much, but they only last a few hours on the EE, even at inflated prices...

Don't buy a .260. They suck and the cartridge isn't being supported by remington. Where did you find these cheap sakos? You know, so I can not buy one, because its not my favorite cartridge.

Stoeger canada had a inventory reduction special on them recently to dealers and thats why you'll see them for sale for hundreds less than a regular Sako chambering. The 260 will probably never been a top seller, but it is a fantastic cartridge

Who cares?
If you know what it does and it does what you need buy it!

Just too "puny" for the "gotta have a magnum that shoots a 1/4 of a mile" crowd that watch WILD TV every Sunday morning ! Can't kill moose or bears with a 6.5, only crazy Scandanavians do that. Geez, doesn't everybody know that ? ;)

The 260 is a very good cartridge - but then again, so are the 6mm Rem and 7mmExpress/280 Rem cartridges ... seemingly, they just got out-marketed by the 243 Win and 7mm Rem Mag. Nothing wrong with a Sako 85 either - more should take notice !

Well that explains things.I would even jump at a 7mm-08 at the reduced price, but the .260 is just a little smaller than I like for elk, moose and bear.

260 would have been the perfect round for deer if deer was your only game and you handload. A 270, or even better 308/30-06, gives you the extra power to hunt moose and/or elk.

It is pretty obvious that the 260 is not selling well and the stores want to off-load them.

Anyone find a store wanting to offload a Sako 85 in the puny/useless 260 Remington let me know and I will take it off the market so the rest of you don't have suffer and agonize over wasted time discussing the finer points of the 270/30-06/308/7mm-08 and why they kill better than the afore mentioned puny and useless 260! I don't want you to have to suffer so I will take a hit for the team!

As for Moose and Elk I believe that's a matter of preference.

I doubt the moose will notice that he got hit by a .264 140 grain bullet going 2800 fps and change as opposed to being hit by a .277 150 grain bullet going about 2850 fps. I dont' think we really want to start a thread called 260 Rem vs. 270 win do we ?

In terms of overall popularity I dont think it ever had a fair chance. Some hunters will look down uppon it: Why would I buy a 260 when I can have a 270 that's time tested....(simplistic way of thinking, I know). And as mentioned, North Americans have never fully warmed to the 6.5's. Maybe its in the name...blame it on marketing ?

No flies on the 260, I think Id actually get one if I didnt' have a 6.5 swede .

I have taken elk and moose with 100gr .257" bullets, but I was much more selective with the shots that I would take. It's all a matter of personal preference, and I now prefer at least a .284" bullet for my moose and elk hunting.

Maybe they got soaked in the flood they are currently dealing with. Yeah..I know bad joke.

Now if just the barrel on that 30-06 stainless/synthetic was somehow damaged in the flood,it would make a great donor for a 280AI.
