I am new to the shooting sport. I have some hand me down Shotguns from my Uncles and Grandpa but was looking to start a tactical shotgun project. I would like to do most of it myself.

I was wondering which type of gun you guys would reccommend as a starting point?

Don't want parts that are too hard to find?

Inspired by your tactical shotgun pics!

For Pump Actions:

Remington 870
Mossberg 500 or 590
Ithaca 37
Winchester 1200/1300 Defender
Benelli Nova/Supernova
Browning BPS High Capacity

oh and Benelli M3 Semi/Pump Convertible

Semi-autos:

Remington 1100 or 11-87
Benelli M1 Tactical
Franchi SPAS
Saiga 12

Full-Auto

AA-12 (probably not easy to get and legality issues with that one)

870's are by far one of the easiest and cheapest to make for a project. Parts can be found everywhere and if you really want to spend the money on super cool parts, you can!

All good choices except three of them, the Benelli M3, Franchi SPAS and the Saiga are prohibited fireams.

For a tactical project nothing beats a Remington 870. Start with the basic Police model and customize to suit your desires.

870 or 870 clone like the Grizzly offered by CanadaAmmo, just look at the dealer adds above...

I have the regular 870 clone Grizzly with 12.5 inch barrel & no choke tubes, it's my "go to gun" for camping & home defense...

Cheers
Jay

My personal bias: Rem 870 Wingmasters... fabulous value in light if all kinds of people rushing towards the 3" and 3.5" magnum chambers (recoil... ouch), that drives the price of the underrated Wingmasters for me and my son.

Enjoy the 870 addiction!!!
