Is it just me or is this just a slightly less expensive(or maybe cheaper) version of the Super Black Eagle II? Also in the promo video, the vinci seems to have rougher recoil than the SBE II and the Beretta Extrema II. It looks like it kicks like a hell?! Not sure if i'm a fan. Just would like to see other opinions on this gun. I was waiting till Benelli unvailed this gun before deciding what to buy. I'm still undecided between the Benelli SBE II and Beretta Extrema 2.

Open to any comments to help me make a decision.

I own the Xtrema2 and have shot it for 3 seasons now and can't get over the performance of this gun.. 0 failures!!

I was lucky in the beginning before buying it to have a buddy that owned a gun shop and allowed me to test both the Xtrema2 and the SBE2 before my purchase..

I fired 100 rounds of skeet from both guns and a box each of 3-1/2" shells as well..

I found the Xtrema2 with K/O to have a lot less recoil..with both types of ammo..Found it pretty cool to fire skeet loads from the Xtrema2 with one hand and not break my wrist..

The Xtrema2 was a bulkier gun and felt awesome swinging it to make the shots..The rubber inlays gives a nice grip in wet or dry conditions..

The line of sight is perfect for me and after using the supplied shims I was able to adjust the comb & drop to fit me even better..

The camo finish on both guns is worth every extra penny for protection on the exterior and the added Aquaguard and the Xtrema2 is excellant with zero rusting or corrosion hunting 95% salt water..

The cycling is lightning fast on the Extrema2..not that it really matters in a hunting situation but is cool to impress the buddies..I also found the SBE2 "clunky" during cycling but it did cycle the rounds..

The SBE2 does break down a little easier than the Extrema2 but it's not really an issue since the Xtrema2 only needs to be fully cleaned after 500-1000 rounds of use..mind you I clean mine after every trip, just out of habit and it only takes a couple extra minutes overall..

out of the group of guys I hunt with during the season...there are now 7 Xtrema2's and 1 SBE2 and 2 Mossburg's...there has been no issues with either brand of the "B" guns to date..Both Mossburgs have had major issues with cycling..

Hope this helps....

Both guns are recoil operated. The SBE/SBEII is a 3.5" gun that uses what Benelli calls the 'inertia driven operating system'.

The Vinci is a 3" gun that uses a new 'in-line', 'inertia driven operating system'.

No idea what the price is, but expect to pay a fortune, if and when they do appear in Canada in about 12 months time.

You are correct, most if not all experienced shooters believe that the gas operated Beretta Xtrema is a softer shooting gun, than the SBE/SBEII.

The Beretta Urika/Xtrema has proven to be a bomb-proof gun- you just can't go wrong with it.

Thanks for your input Chezz. My initial choice overall seems to be for the Extrema II and it will possibly be the gun I will purchase in the coming months. From the few guys around my area that have this shotgun, they seem to have the same opinion and overall performance that you've be having. What is your take on the Benelli Vinci?

Hi Abduknut. From the Benelli web site the Vinchi is les expensive than the SBE 2. That's why I'm wondering if Benelli is trying to cut corners a little and make a cheaper version of the SBE 2? What is your take on the Vinchi? Here are the prices of the top end models: Vichi -- $1479.00 and SBE 2 -- $1759.00 as listed on the Benelli web site.

It's not really a cheaper version of the SBEII.

Benelli knows not everybody wants or can be conned into buying a $2000, 3.5" gun, no matter how much money they divert into advertising.

But looking at Beretta's bottom line, they see that a heck of alot of people want to buy a $1200-$1500, 3" gun.

Even though Beretta has wholly owned Benelli since 1990, Benelli needs to hold onto their market share. Their present line of 3" guns is outdated. Benelli needs NEW to survive. No matter how much they revamp the M1 line, it's still an old army shotgun trying to pass as a sporting/hunting gun, and has never sold well.

It's really got nothing to do with Benelli wanting to give you or me a better gun. The 'revolutionary features' of the Vinci is smoke and mirrors. I seriously laughed out loud when I read the description on their website. It's got all to do with Benelli/Beretta holding onto their piece of the pie.

Thanks for the info ABDUKNUT. I'm begining to think I'm not the only one who isn't WOWed by the Benelli's new shotgun. I too had also noticed that the Vinci shoots only up to 3". Like you mentionned, for a lot of people that's all they want or need and thus makes the shotgun a little more affordable.

I could shoot the vinci off my chin. lol. It kicks like a feather. My 20 gauge m2 kicks harder than it does.
I have not patterned it in since I have been at school but I am heading home tonight and will tomorrow. I agree its not the look we are use to but it does not matter when i put it in my hands. I have never had a gun that naturally flows to your shoulder like it does. I have owned every benelli except a M3, M4, and Nova and nothing else shoots like it.

Comments from a new Benelli Vinci owner on the BenelliUSA forums.

What is your take on the Benelli Vinci?

The vinci is a very nice gun IMHO...

It does have some very nice features that I like..
I like the 3 piece design, the overall styling of the gun looks good,
I think the black version is the most attractive..I like the simplicity that
Benelli is famous for..
Cost is where it should be for a high end 3" gun..

I was shocked when I first seen that it couldn't fire 3-1/2" shells but
the last thing Benelli wanted was to compete with their own high end 3-1/2" SBE2

I think the hype was over rated but whatever way you look at it..it did
bring change to a market that needed it..

I have shot the SBE, SBE2 and the Extremas. I'm sticking with my SBE1 for now but would move to a SBE2 or maybe the Vinci if it handles well (I think I've only shot about 2 boxes of 3.5 inch in 5 years). I never clean the SBE until the end of the season, I never even dry it off, just stick it in the corner barrel down and let it drain. It works flawlessly and is much less cumbersome than the Extrema (I find the Extrema to be "thick"). Recoil is a little more but barely more and the Benellis handle more like the O/U I used to shoot.

The Vinci intrigues me because of it's modular design and the fact that you could buy interchangeable stocks for it that require no installation. Is it cute? No. But if it works and kills ducks for me I don't care how it looks.

Thanks for all your help guys! I finally put the money down on the Benelli SBE II with Advantage Max 4 HD camo and 28" barrel. Should be getting it in roughly 2 week. The dealer ordered it this week. Can't wait to fire off a few rounds at the trap and skeet range.

Too-deli-doo !!

2 seasons now with my xtrema2 WITHOUT kick off!! im 5'5 130 pounds soaking wet and shoot nothing but 3 and a halfers for geese, duck and yes turkeys! def the softest shooter out there..now the SBE with roman candles on the other hand pounds the snot outta me...reminds me of my 30-06 really...

hope this helps a bit cant say enough good things about the Beretta....

This conversation has piqued my interest. Does anyone know if the reduced recoil of the Xtrema results in lower shot velocities than the Inertia versions? Anyone ever chrono them? If so, wouldn't this result in shorter effective ranges?

Can you even chrono a shot pattern?

There is a very detailed review in this Month's American Rifleman, and I believe in Guns & Ammo too.

This is a brand new, low recoil, unbelievable ergonomics gun which apparently must be tried. The reviewer in American Rifleman fired 7,550 rounds dove hunting in Argentina with no misfires; no misfeeds, and no shoulder bruise.

Sure a weird looking puppy though!

Haha, about chrono'ing shot, I'm not sure. Might give the chrono a seizure, or you may accidentally murder the thing.

If you did it from close enough range it would probably work, but save the trouble, and just fire a slug for your test :)

That is an interesting thought. I almost favor the gas system as having a higher velocity, as the bolt would stay locked for longer...

My interest is also piqued.
