What type of trap machines does your club operate?

What is your level of satisfaction?

Why did you choose the brand you did?

What type of problems have you had?

Thanks

Our club is constantly having problems with the voice activated trap machines, and it sucks not being able to talk to your shooting partners.

The last set of machines my club bought were Beomats. We also have several sets of Winchesters.

The Beomats put out pretty good targets. However, they don't come with an instruction or parts manual. Makes it a challenge to set up targets and adjust them.

Brad.

Our Beomat machines came with instructions in sweadish (I think?) so we use a $12magnetic protractor on the front of the machines. Set the target height the first time record the angle and the next set up is a snap. It works really well.

We throw trap targets from PAT traps, and our skeet field has old Westerns.

The PAT's have been excellent for us, and our Canterbury Voice system has also been virtually trouble free. As with any corded release system there is some maintenance to do if connectors get broken.

We installed the retrofit doubles fingers last year before hosting provincials, and they make setting a good pair of doubles much easier.

AFAIK, the only major downside to the PAT's is their serious dislike of the cold. The hydraulics get quite picky, and will throw bizarre patterns. (like 20 straight hard rights)

Overall a 10/10 and we went with PAT's because it seems to be the standard for ATA clubs now. It's what most all of the other Saskatchewan clubs are using.

Beaverhills Sporting clays uses Auto Sporters, I think they are made in Calgary. They have these all set up on Marine batteries with solar trickle chargers.
The NASA club that used to be in Edmonton had Beomat skeet, Pat's for ATA, Beomat wobble trap, and Auto Sporter for the 5 Stand. FS

My club is the same. We have almost exclusively gone to PAT traps and I have so say that they have been great. I believe we use a corded Cantebury Voice system as well that has been good too.

I too think they do not like the cold. The problem I see is that they can be set to through regulation targets but after 3 squads go through they seem to get warmed up and the targets go high. Same if you are the first squad in the morning when they have been set the night before. The targets will start low and get better as the day goes on.

Other than that they are great.

My club uses Winchester Western handset machines with the automatic conversion from Western Retro Products in Victoria, BC. These are in the trap fields, skeet & 5-Stand. We also have two set of new Pat traps. You'll find this year the exchange rate is going to kill you on traps made in the US and Sweden.

Our club has a GMV as our main machine. It has been pretty good over the years and could have been better if it had received the maintenance that it should. We have 2 Auto Sporters and just got a Promatic. We are using these machines for throwing sporting targets. The Auto Sporters work really well. The jury is out on the Promatic as we have only tried it once so far.

Where I used to live we had Pats and used to start them a hour early to let the hydraulics warm up

Yorkton uses Pat Traps and as Bill stated are the choice is Saskatchewan with mostly corded Cantebury Voice system.
If you are having a problem with the cooler weather simply place a space heater in the traphouse and run it the night before. Nice and warm by shooting time.
Pat Traps are great.

Our small club has Westerns in the Skeet field and a Winchester with the Western Retro system in the Trap house. All working mostly trouble free and easy to maintain. Our Sporting set up still has 3/4 #### handset machines.

Yes we start them up early and have a space heater in our main practice trap. How do the PAT traps and the Beomat's compare ?? The thing is if you have 6 houses like us it only makes sense to have all the trap the same for the simple reason of availability of parts...etc

Thanks folks
I have looked at the conversion kits for teh Winchester as we have several also.
Is the kit a bolt on as it seems to be or is it better to have the winchesters overhauled.

I have lookid into the Pats but with the hydraulics, I am not sure they would fit our area even with synthetic oils

Any more thloughts on the GMV Superstar? Seems to have a great warranty and easy operation.

As with most clubs we would like to reduce individuals adjusting or fixing these machines to their personal tastes. We all know how this usually turns out

The Beomat has drive motors instead of hydralics so they work regardless of the temperature, so far we have had no problems and next to no maintenance. We have no heaters and run them every Sunday year round.

When we first got our GMV, it had cycled 50000 times I believe. When set on doubles, you could have set out two garbage cans and any missed birds would have dropped right in. After another couple 100 000, it isn't quite as predictable.

Still is a good machine. My hesitation in getting another one would be the lack of local support. The only Canadian dealer that I am aware of is out of Quebec.

The CS270 automatic loader for your handset Western is a simple bolt on loader. Make sure your X135 recoil snubber has the correct amount of ATF fluid and is in good overall working condition. Took us about 30 minutes to install.
