I just put a deposit on a new M&P 9mm, I haven't received my RPAL yet so I figured while I'm waiting I may as well. The one I bought looked like the finish on the slide had been worn a bit, but it was hard to tell. Should I be concerned about this or just ignore it?

Including taxes it will be $767 I believe. Funny thing is I thought about about doing this 2 weeks ago when the price was still $625+ tax, decided not to. Came back to my gun shop on friday and the price had gone up to $679. Kinda blows but I guess if you snooze you lose.
I think I'll have another look at it when I go put more money down, if it's bad I'll have them swap it out for another.

Hell - The slide is stainless so get it bead blasted!

$767 is a fair amount of money. When you go to the store to pick it up, compare it to the other M&P's finishes. If this one looks like crap compared to it , ask to start transfer on a different one.

If you only paid like $550 or $575 I wouldn't worry, but at that price you shouldn't expect anything off with it.

I've never actually seen a wear mark on an M&P slide (In person). I've drawn mine from G+G Level 2 retention and Raven Concealment holsters (A LOT) and what looks like a scuff usually wipes off with a bit of bore cleaner on a rag. The finish is very tough, if you give the gun a wipe down, I'm sure the marks will disappear. Excellent choice of pistol by the way, there are more and more of them showing up in the hands of 'serious' shooters all the time - that's a good sign.

No to rain on your parade, but I wanted to do the same thing and put a deposit down on a pistole while I waited for my RPAL to show. Good thing I didn't, it took 6 months from start to finish to acquire it! (3 months waiting for it to be processed until they told me they didn't like my references!). Handguns deals go buy on the EE daily, just be patient and wait for the actual licenses, get your deposit back and then purchase the pistol. That way you won't lose the one you want. Or you never know, mine might have been an isolated case!

I am starting to have some issues with my RPAL going through. I have a pretty good relationship with my local gun shop and was told that they'll hold it for as long as I need them to. They also said that if for some reason I wasn't approved for my RPAL I could put the money on a non-restricted gun of my choice.
I think I agree with ian_in_vic, the slide may just need to be wiped down but I'll have another look at it. It almost looked like you could see a bit of bare metal through the melonite, it had a bit of a bronze/gold tinge to it, I don't know if that means anything to anybody?

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but is it common for 45ACP M&P's to cost much more than 9mm M&P's?

I have been looking and reading about M&P's, seem like a good gun. From what I have seen, there is about $250 price difference between a 45ACP and 9 mm. OUCH!!

I was looking at some new M&P's at my local shop and I almost traded mine in on a 5" model in 9mm, the slide is a little bit narrower and longer.... If I recall correctly all of the M&P's there were priced the same $749.99...... from 9mm to .45.... The only reason I didn't do the trade was I was going to have to pay $200 to upgrade....... and I figgure how much of a difference can 3/4" make....really?

$250 difference seems a little much. Check out Frontier Firearms at the top of the page. $100 difference.

John

p.s. they are a site supporting dealer -obviously- say no more say more nudge nudge wink wink.....:D

The price difference has pretty much always been about $100, more than that may mean they have old stock in 9 and 40 (originally sold at $649 on a buying discount to dealers who ordered a certain number), and new stock in 45 (which was never part of the stocking order deal).
