Sorry, but I have a brain fart and I'm hoping You can help me here.
Ok, I'm a new guy in Canada, but seems to me that the pump-action shotguns are very popular around.
Lot of guys are transforming the 870's or 500's into more tacticool tools (which is nice BTW).
I think that a shotgun makes a great home defense weapon, but under Canadian regulations the classic pump is useless in case of emergency.
The process of loading the thing may take way too long to respond in efficient way.
How are You dealing with this problem...except for buying magazine feed pump shotgun ;)

Put 1 in the tube, rack the pump.

9 out of 10 times this will be enough for you to smell the home intruder void his bowels!

Just to be sure, you can plug a couple more in the tube (which you have in the side saddle of course) as you stealth your way through your home.

And fair play to em. If enthusing over flashlight mounted shotguns floats your boat, they why not? Its better than being stuck in front of a computer all day surfing the forums. :)

Less convenient perhaps but I wouldn't say useless. The side-saddle on my 870 is set up to facilitate loading one in the chamber and the rest in the tube. The last round is brass up and it goes first into the open action and the gun is then closed. The rest go into the tube. Loading the gun is part of my practice routine.

Having played with the mag-fed pumps I have no confidence in them and would prefer to go with what I know works even if it less convenient.

+1 loaded side saddle and keeping the action open while stored.
You would still have to load one in the chamber and the rest into the tube for an auto loader anyway.

From what I understand and have seen in the laws/regs (I'll have to look it up again) the gun cannot be loaded nor can the magazine be loaded AND in contact with the gun. The side saddle is not a magazine.

I have met the definition of "unloaded" and the storage conditions A, B3 and C.

I like the mag feed. I can load 7 rounds in the time it takes to load 1. That does not mean I will need 6 more rounds. SXS like the outlaw is perfect for home defense.

which mag fed are you talking about? I would like to have more than 2 rounds at a time if I need them or not.
