I just went and bought some more Varget today... and the price increased 25%!!!

Only a couple months ago I could pick it up for 28.50/lbs. Now it's at $35!!!

Anybody else see an increase in powder prices?

I'm guessing Can. $ drop and the US Obama craze that is causing it?

Ya, it was inevitable that powder would climb as well considering all the other components have risen considerably. I do know that wholesale cost of powder has risen on average $2/lb USD so with the dollar and availability that will be passed on to the consumer for sure. Hopefully dealers will hold the line on the existing stock and only raise when the new stock arrives but I think we all know better..

Higginsons is starting to look pretty good again. For a while I had some dealers who would get real competitive when I was buying several cases at a time but now $26 a pound for a cardboard box of powder seems like a deal. Varget is getting so hard to find that you may have to count yourself lucky to find it at all.

Why of course. That explains the 25% increase in Canada............

Powder, primers, brass, wads, brass & bullets all up ... lead has come down, however.

Biggest jump seems to be primers.

Oh yeah, What was $ 739.99 retail before tax this time last year ( and even as late as July) is now roughly $ 919.99 ..... !

Powder went up about 4-6 weeks ago (where I buy it anyways) They held their price lower for weeks ($184 for 8lbs Varget), even after Higginsons raised theirs.
( I will deal exclusively with Hirsch Precision due to their professionalism and fast customer service)

Primers have gone up almost 50% in some cases. Last fall CCI Lrg Rifle was $24 per 1000, then $28 2 months ago....now $35!!! (glad I got 10,000 @ $28)

Im just wondering when all the hoarding and panic buying in the US slowly comes to an end and stops pushing up prices like this, whether we will ever see prices start to come down again?(let alone even been able to get components).

I just bought some IMR 4350 yesterday at a local store for $37.50 plus tax. Wss had it last year for $25.99 plus tax thats a sizable jump. Northern B.C.

I've seen the same thing in the GTA - shortage of Amax, hefty price increases on Varget, CCI Benchrest large rifle primers. I won't even mention the price increases on some of the factory ammo....

When have we EVER seen prices come back down after a major jump ??? If a $25 item jumps to $50 in a year, then the economy goes back to normal, expect that item to MAYBE go to $48 as a token offering, but that's it.

Yup. See: Gas prices.

I think surplus nato calibers may drop a fair bit if Iraq actually winds down but that's about it.

Bought a pound of H4895 and a pound of H4350 last week, paid 32.99 each.....this time last year i think I paid 29.99 for the same powder from the same store(WSS) Haven't bought any primers yet, paid 28.99 for a bag of 243 brass this weekend at WSS, last year, I think it was 26.99!!
