14.5x114mm bullets?

Claven, I didn't remove the leather just the wood dgrips and the disassembled the butt assembly so the leather wouldn't get soaked. the bore was solidly packed with cosmoline thouigh.

The first rounds I picked up were from Egypt, brass case and steel core ball ammo, don't know where the guy got it from though.

Here's a pic of mine with a non-refurb M91/30 for size comparison.

And for ammo comparisson, here is a 14.5x114 case next to a 7.62x54R case.

I used to have access to a high pressure steamer. Really cut the preservative, fast.

+1 on this, steamer, or a hot-water pressure washer. I've heard this to be the cleanest best method, and least harmful.

Unfortunately i had neither when removing cosmoline from some gun parts, so engine degreaser had to do...
Although any small metallic parts can be left to soak in diesel, that i found to almost "eat away" at the cosmoline.

I degrease my guns with a vapour degreaser we have at work. It use trichloroethylen (smells REALLY bad) but do a awsome job. Those degreasers are use in plating shops around the country and are prohibited in the U.S.

purchase a lot of surplus virgin brass from a current ammo manufacturer that makes the stuff and get it here, but then again, ain't got no primers, nor powder, nor bullets.

Powder can be bought, bullets can be turned from solid, and the primer problem can be avoided if while purchasing the brass you spec out primer pockets for 50BMG primers.
