I kinda like the look of them and would like to get one for my PT1911...

Also does anyone in Canada stock them? or would I have to order from brownells etc?

You talking about porting the barrel & front of the slide or the goofy looking add-on ported bushing thingy?

About ten years ago when I was rebuilding mine, I asked one of the guys at Wilson Combat about the compensated bushing. The response was not favorable. His opinion was that it was a useless gimmick. If you want a comped barrel, buy a drop in from Clark custom.

They barely add any weight and are a truly ####ty compensator.

This thing?

Do us all a favour. Don't alter your 1911 and prowl the ee for a compensated .45. They're out there and designed to work. AND you don't butcher up a great 1911.

The bad news is that you end up with two pistols..........:D

Always wanted a comp gun so I asked Gunnar from Armco to build me a Trojan with a Comp barrel. I'll also have the regular barrel so I will be able to switch from one to the other. It costs more than the thingy from Marstar but I think STI's comp barrels are a better investment.

Should get it next week. Will post pics ASAP.

also called a compensator lol!;)

Well, not exactly. There are proper compensators that are milled steel parts with port(s) on the top that thread onto a longer barrel and are, in the case of a 1911, fitted to the front of the slide. Idea is to add some forward weight to the pistol and with the port(s) direct some of the gases upwards, in theory to control the muzzle flip when shooting.

Then there are 'wannabe' compensators that are 'extended' barrel bushings that have some slot(s) cut into the upper part. They kinda look like a real compensator but in reality are just for esthetics. They contribute minimally, if at all, to the function of a real compensator.

That's why, in reality, they are a "goofy looking add-on ported bushing thingy"...... ;) :p
