Anybody have any details on the Swiss Arms 7.62x39 project?

I heard they scrapped it, but I have no idea

That would be very interesting to see how accurate the Swiss can make the 7.62x39 round, since in my opinion anyways, its not exactly the most accurate or tightest grouping round in the world. Not all ammunition is created equal.

Well considering that the 550 is considered by far as the best Assault rifle around...
Making a multi-caliber variant seems to make sense...

BTW the effect of Corrosive ammo on chrome parts is not critical... or bothering anything for that matter... There are LOTS of 1960-70 AKs around... and shooting proper.

I take exception to the "Best Assault rifle around" comment. I don't think that they are. They are basically an expensive (And generally accurate) AK action. I have had no one come to one of our matches and out shoot me with one and I just shoot shoot the lowly AR-15. Untill that happens I will reserve judgment.

So you dont know:D
There is nothing wrong in not knowing...

Who cares if its a piston design like 5 billion other guns... Its 100 x more refined than an AK and it shoots 556 like laser beams.

KevinB and Big_Red would probably disagree that the SA is a fantastic battle rifle. I honestly think the market for a x39 SA would be very very small, so why bother.

Put on a match with more rounds and I'll make a road trip, or you can come down here. Talk to Dave O. - he can recount their ability.;)

I'm not sure what this statement proves other than nobody you invite shoots a SA? I guess soldiers in the battlefield could say the same thing

Well since most people compare a 20" swiss arms to a 14.5" AR I have to say I can understand there lack of belief in it being the perfect arm. I know I wouldn't want to lug any rifle over 16" for anything close a heart pumping activity. I'm sure on equal footing I wouldn't bother with my LMT, but as is, I can't say that's the case.

m39a2,

Never seen anyone with a Swiss Arms outshoot you? Well come to Calgary and we'll see about that. There are a few of us who shoot them better than average.

Are you doing the full Service Rifle program out to 500 meters? or an reduced range, round count, target course of fire?

Surprathepeg,

I think that if you look a little closer you'll find that Big_Red and KevinB have an issue with the SG552 but have loads of respect for the SG551 and SG550's and think that they are great guns. I remember comments such as, "Iraqi SWAT using SG551's with over a million rounds fired with only one broken part". GSG9 has been using the SG551 for the better part of 2 decades and in some intense operational situations with great success and respect.

If tru then I stand corrected.

unless a military force somewhere adopts it, I doubt we will ever see it. Even if we did see it, cost would likely be above the current pe90 due to R&D and manufacturing costs...
