Im heading to Edmonton tomorrow to pick up my car, and im going to stop at Wholesale Sports. Im looking to buy a .17 HMR.

I was looking at the Savages and the Marlins, they both look alike but im not sure how they are quality wise.

Any suggestion???

I use a Marlin 917VS, the previous owner installed a rifle basix trigger, 7rnd mags, and after I bedded the action, and sorted individual rounds by weight, I was getting cloverleaf groups with it at 75m prone. I am sure the Savages work nicely as well, especially since most (or all?) come with that accutrigger.

Hope that helped.

All the best,

- Mac

:agree: (heavy barrel) I have a 93R17-FV with the accutrigger, with bipod attached, lying down i can place 5 shot groups at 100 yards (measured) that group into less than the size of a nickel  For optics i use a Bushnell Legend 3x9-40.I have never fired a Marlin 17 and a 7rd mag sounds nice as compared to savage's 5rd mag, personally i would prefer the accutrigger as accuracy is what "Hits",not mag capacity.I understand Marlins are very accurate but again i prefer the accutrigger.

Whichever one you choose get a heavy barrel. Huge increase in consistent accuracy.

My son just purchased a savage with the heavy barrel the first three shots at 30 yards were all touching one another after some tweeking it shot a group you could cover with a dime at 100 yards. My regular savage will shoot about an inch group at 100 yards.
