Not Service Rifle exactly but good news for the future of military support to shooting sports in general. The text below is only partially copied from the CANFORGEN site

CHANGES TO THE CF SPORTS PROGRAM
UNCLASSIFIED

REFS: A. CF HEALTH AND PHYSICAL FITNESS STRATEGY
B. CFAO 50-3

OVER THE PAST 18 MONTHS, THE CF HAVE PLACED GREAT EMPHASIS ON PHYSICAL FITNESS. THE SPORTS PROGRAM HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN AN IMPORTANT MEANS OF IMPROVING AND MAINTAINING THE PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVELS OF CF MEMBERS.

IN RECOGNITION OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SPORT, THE FOLLOWING SPORTS WILL BE ADDED TO THE CF NATIONAL SPORTS PROGRAM EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: GOLF, TRIATHLON, TAEKWONDO, SWIMMING, WOMEN S SOCCER AND THE CF ATHLETIC CHALLENGE WHICH WILL INCLUDE SPORTS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SHOOTING, SWIMMING, RUNNING AND OBSTACLE RACE.

THE CF CISM SPORTS PROGRAM WILL ALSO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE FENCING AND MILITARY PENTATHLON (which includes shooting)

Yes, things seem to be picking up with the shooting side of things. CFSAC is back and getting stronger, Bisley is looking fine, and AFSAM and AASAM is now back on the agenda too.

The good thing about the CANFORGEN is that it should be able to give credence to use funding from the NPF fitness side of the bureaucracy to support units in getting special kit or paying for entrance/registration/membership fees, instead of using unit funds etc.

Just like soccer, hockey or softball.

I got two words for the guys that hack on the Air Force. "Spec Pay"! :D

Golf. Ewwww! I'd rather be at the gym lifting weights. Not like that's gonna happen either.

Cheers
Trev

IPSC would get you killed in the military. "Hmmm lets stand in the doorway and shoot 9 things in sucession..."
:rolleyes:That's bulls**t. Try telling that to the United States Army Marksmenship Unit. Then go get Voight, Letham and Jarret who are all IPSC pros (and World Champions) currently teaching special forces and private contractors.

This is an old wives tale and has yet to ever be proven that an IPSC Shooter when faced with a reality threat stands in the open.

The experience gained in all the gunhandling games far outweighs any such fantasy.

ah settle down a bit bud , and consider what i was talking about , ipsc and idpa ARE shooting sports are they not ?

and if i am sooooooo full of sh:t why does the various marksman ship units in the US put so much into the various shooting sports

it can be argued that they are realistic as service rifle, PALMA and SKEET and TRAP

all of which was supported by the military at one time i believe.

They all build confidence , skill that can be tranferred to real world ,just like video games are not real but they are also being modded and developed into traning tools

......and thats exactly what i was refering to .........hence is why skeet and trap was once a big thing with the AAA /bird gunner crowd .

Hehe...true that. IDPA would work better.

yes but a game is a game ..........and most IDPA guys have not spent anytime in the "realworld"(and if anyone takes offence sorry but gaming is gaming)
so you can't compare the two , that's not saying the skills are important and transferable, as well as the confidence factor that is also developed

For all those that joked about golf being the domain of the Air Forces' PT effort, I know for a fact that 2RCR uses it as summer season 'alternative PT' for officers....and has a battalion policy whereby platoon PT sessions are optional for NCMs above the rank of Sgt. Way to build combat fitness!

True to some extent, but members need skills to relax and defuse too, and Golf "can" be less aggressive and competitive than some team sports. I used to come out of a football game more amped and wired than I went in. ;)

The effectiveness of the relaxation depends on who you play with of course... :D

Don't be slagging golf. Golf has certain aspects which are very much useful in crossover training in marksmanship.(target ranging, concentration and mental focus) Also, if you walk and not ride, it is very good exercise. Don't confuse going out with a cooler full of beer, on the back of a golf cart, and playing a few holes while drinking, with the sport of golf. To do so is like comparing plinking with a pellet gun, to top ranked competitive shooting sports.
Golf is my main sport, and profession. I have spent countless hours, over years, training to be able to perform at the highest levels in the sport. Golf, indeed, is a sport.
