I'm building a custom compact rifle out of a 700 LTR and a AICS folding stock. The idea is to get the rifle to fit in a pelican 1700 case (approx 3ft).

Does anyone out there have a similar set up?? I'm also looking for advise on other items components that are "must have". Here's what I got so far:

- 700 LTR
- Night Force 20 MOA Picatinny Base
- Night Force Ultra light rings
- Night Force NXS 3.5-15 x 50 (NP-R1)
- Accuracy International 2.0 Chassis (FDE)
- 2x 10 rnd mags
- Dewy Cleaning Rod

What I still want to do:

- Action bedded
- Trigger job
- Over sized bolt knob installed
- Vortex Flash Hider installed
- Bipod (recommendations???)

***Pics to Follow***

I'm new to long range stuff so any expert advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

Go Badger for the bolt knob - I've got a similar package, but less the AICS stock.

Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 20"
Badger Bolt Knob
Badger 20MOA Steel Base
Badger Max50 Standard Rings
Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50 MLR
Williams Bottom Metal
McMillan M40 Stock (sniper fill, Vietnam-style paint)
Vortex Flash Hider
Harris Bipod

It's off to Rick @ ATR to have the work done shortly.

This is my custom from ATRS. It has a 21 3/4 inch barrel on it and fits in said case. AICS 2.0 chasis. If you want I can take some pictures of it in its case. Its a storm case but similar size. It was originally going to go in a 1700 until I saw the storm. I like the latches better. Your LTR should fit fine. My LTR and standard HS stock fit in a 1720 Pelican. The folding stock will let you go small. In regards to mags, the ten rounders are cools, but I have found if I need to get down low or shoot off a pack they get in the way. I use my 5 rounders more than my 10's.
I have seen the vortex flash hiders installed and they look kinda cool, but it might be a waste. If you want something thats going to be really effective a gill brake or badger style brake would do the job better, but whichever way you go its gonna be a nice little rig. And the standard 30 cal dewey wond't fit in my case. I will post pics.

I don't have a folding but a 1.5 aics. The harris bipod is actually really good and install easily. To be honest, I don't think the AICS bipod is worth the money. its like $400 bucks. Just for looks.

First time I have ever heard of anyone building a rifle to fit a case.;) I have seen a few cases that show up at shoots with 3-4 inches of barrel sticking out of them:cool:

Maybe not built just for the case....but I did already have the case. It was just sitting there all empty so I thought why not make a $5k rifle fit in it? ;)

Its a versa. It has held up well and I won't spend the 400 for a real one. My big thing is that I don't want a massive case to lug around. A folding stock takes off just over 8 inches. Not really building it for the case, but want it to pack up compact.

This was my standard LTR in a 1720 case. Had about 1.5 inches on either side.

This is my current rig. Sorry I can't find a tape measure to save my life right now. Found it. Rifle is 33 inches folded and internal case is 36 1/4 inches.
