I just got a new handgun

Several of my friends have Glocks and I have tried them in 9 and 40 but I just couldn't get comfortable with them. When I decided it was time I bought a new pistol I looked at the M&P. It fit my hand and I liked the interchangable grips. Just waiting for the transfer.

TDC, I've got to say, you've caught my interest. You talk like you belong on LF - what are your credentials, if you don't mind my asking? Your profile doesn't offer much.

Whooo... I like it.

Now, someone's probably going to jump on me for saying that, rather than trashing your choice, but there it is.

Full disclosure: I don't even have my RPAL yet, but I'm getting it just so's I can buy a 75B; then sit on my balcony, waiting for the world to end.

No worry I am not jump on you. you have a good taste of gun choice. 75B is indeed a great gun so as Beretta. I love mine.

so if the gun doen't matter why should I pick an ugly one? :D

The tool doesn't matter when discussing marksmanship. The decision when selecting a pistol/rifle/shotgun comes down to purpose and/or intended use. If you shoot action sports type stuff than perhaps a 1911 or something capable of scoring Major(for IPSC) is what you're after. If you don't care about major or minor and are on a limited budget then perhaps a 9mm is all you'll need. If reliability is a priority then Norinco, Walther, and Beretta aren't the best choices. Looking for dead simple to operate with a consistent trigger pull, then a Glock just might be the ticket.

I can appreciate a hand crafted sports car. I can't appreciate someone who buys one and complains about the sh*tty trunk space and poor mileage. Same goes for guns. Buying or building a high dollar rig is easy. Its "bolt and go" technology. The difficult part is justifying why one perceives the need for all the accessories or features of said rig. Firearms are tools designed for a specific task. My firearms are no different. Each firearm has a role and is setup for that role. If the setup needs to be adjusted it gets done. I've researched, pondered and tried a lot of bolt on gear and discarded whatever didn't solve a problem or enhance performance. Everything has trade offs. Every piece of gear can be championed as necessary or beneficial; but only if it can be justified for the role it was intended. Rigs built without a defined role are easy to criticize and pick apart. Rigs built without purpose usually indicate that the owner has little or no training as well. Training indicates that one has a task in mind for his tools. Most rigs built without a purpose are built by those who are concerned with image, called posers.

ETA: You want to know what my credentials are. I'm just an average guy who shoots. I've attended a fair number of courses(more to come) and appreciate sound tactics, mindset, and gear..I'm not LE and I have not yet served. You don't have to be SF to appreciate and understand that there is no wonder gun that is capable of all tasks. The right tool for the right job...

Just how many rounds exactly have you shot thru a Beretta? Comparing norinco to a Beretta?? I actually happned to HAVE a 92FS and shot enough ammo thus it both factory and reloads to know FIRST HAND that the gun has excellent reliability.

I have nothing against Glock and may even get one someday (most likely a G29SF) I think it's a decent gun it just wouldn' be my first choice with all the other guns out there that offer the same and more than Glock.

I've put many rounds through several Beretta pistols and observed many thousands more going down range in my time. I'm not saying the Beretta is in the same league as Norinco because its not. I would gladly take a Beretta anyday over a Norinco. As far as reliability is concerned the Beretta doesn't even come close to that of the Glock lineup. The only pistol I would even consider a close contender to Glocks are SIGs.

Please elaborate on what other brands offer that makes them equal to or greater than a Glock?? If your purpose is range plinking or fun shooting than many of the advantages regarding reliability and ease of use will be of no concern.

I happned to own a couple Sig's in the past and I woud lie if I said they were as relaible as my Beretta...wierd eh?

but I'd take a Sig over a Glock anyday...

I'd say your opinion is biased due to the fact you love your Beretta's as is indicated in your avatar. I'll give you benefit of the doubt. Should SIG's be as reliable as a Beretta there are other advantages that cannot be disputed. Again, some of these advantages play no role in fun shooting.

Glock might have a good repuation in the 17, however there have been to many numerous documented issues with it in other calibres especially the .40 for it to even be considered the best of the best. Its a good solid design. However the Sig 226 is equally as solid and probably affords greater longevity due to it construction compared to the glock. The USP in 9mm is considered to be more accurate than the Glock and extremely reliable and offers a decocker or several different options depending upon what you want.

Glock has achieved such wide spread use because it was so heavily adopted by LE during the late 80s and early 90s. The LE who were switching away from wheel guns wanted a simple design generally with no external safeties. This lack of an external safety and low prices offered to agencies by Glock are the main reasons the gun got so popular.

I would wager that if the GLock was in the same price category as Sig and HK you would see less Glocks and more Sigs or HK.

This is a gun forum so I have pics of my guns on here doesn;t make be biased.

Aactually I only own 1 Beretta! as much as I like my 92 I'm open to trying different guns; I also have M&P, PT1911, Norinco, and just sold the Sig... if I only bought Berettas than I'd be biased ;)

Wow, cause reading this thread one would never accuse you of being biased and considering you are the best shot on CGN why do you even bother posting. You are wasting your time typing, you could be out handing a$$(as you put it) right this minute.

Let me guess, back in high school you threw the pigskin a quarter mile as well?

Ladies and gentlemen we are in the presence of greatness, we should all buy Glocks, read more of TDC's pontifications and be thankful that he takes the time to impart his unbiased, humble and impartial thoughts.

Please everyone, no more posts, TDC has it all figured out,

Patrick

But it's not.... a better comparison would be if the Sigs and HKs were in the same price range as the Glock would you see less Glocks & more of them...... :p

Congrats on your G19. They're awesome little Glocks. I can shoot as good if not better with my G19 as compared to my G17's. Lots of other shooters have reported the same. I recommend putting on some night sights and an extended mag release. You can even trick the trigger out if you so desire. A Beretta is a must for the collection so you'll likely acquire another sometime when the right one presents itself at the right price. I've realized there is no such thing as too many pistols!

Nice Beretta, but even better is the picture quality. I have taken a few pics of my firrearms and they always look so cheezy. Well Done.
