Being jerked around by an instructor, wasting my time, what can I do?

If you haven't already read one of my whining posts, heres the gist of it.

I called a local instructor back in december to book a test date since all the other nearby places were full up to january. The guy gave me a date to write the exam, on the day that I'm supposed to write it he says that he's out of exam papers and that he'll call me back next week. He uses this same line everytime I call him, but he never calls back. So I keep calling him like every other week until the middle of february when he tells me that he got test papers from the govt. So he gives me another date to write the exam, and having good faith I put aside some of my time to review the material again. On the day that I'm supposed to write I call him ahead of time to make sure he didn't forget,.... he tells me that he has to send me to some one from the RCMP to challenge the exam and that hell call back with the time and place....
I'm fed up with this BS, I call back a week later, during march and I tell him that I don't have time to write the exam anymore so he offers to refund me my money. I was fine with this, I didn't want to waste any more of my time dealing with this guy, so several weeks later, yesterday I gave him a call now that I can spare a few hours to go get my refund; so he tells me to come to his office on saturday at 10 am.


Today I went and waited for an hour and a half almost, gave him a call, nothing, he's not answering his phone and it's going to voice mail. First time after 4 rings, second time after three rings, third time after two rings. The guy is manually cancelling his calls; he was so quick to answer the phone every other time I called in the last five months.


I am sick of this, legally what can I do about it, who handles the licensing for instructors in ontario? I have exams to write and I don't have the time to deal with this guy right now.

Note from Storm. FSESO might not have a problem with posting info but CGN does and that is all that matters.

You could file a complaint with your local police re fraud. It might not go anywhere ...but it could be you are not alone. Therefore you would have a track record of deceit for CFC and CFO. It's sounds like fraud though. Easy to prove as the feds will know when and how many exams they have shipped him. If he is caught in that lie then let the investigation roll forward.

The other question is he certified still. Call CFO on Monday. That will be the tell all answer. If he is not certified my guess they will look at fraud as he is talking money under false pretense.
 
Well I would get hold of the CFO and see if there is another tester near you. There are 4 people in my area that can test you. Do you mind driving to the 705 area code?
 
I'm not so sure it's a scam, the guy runs an office from a local mall where he organizes fishing, hunting and other outdoors stuff. He also organises lessons for a bunch of other types of licensing. But the guy is unreliable, irresponsible and generally has bad business practices in my opinion.

Sorry I don't drive. I could easily contact york region firearms academy or bass pro for the tests, but I can't afford to spend any more money on this right now. I'm just concerned about getting my money back from the guy.

EDIT: We'll guess who called right after I posted this. He's giving me the same old story, come over anytime; I'm clearly pissed off but he just says "ha ha ok, give me a call when you have time". This guy has no consideration for the value of his customers' time.

How much are you out?

Cut your losses, report him to the CFO and get the course from somewhere else.

...tell everyone you can about this guy. Run his "good" name through the mud. Maybe he'll think twice about "bending over" the next guy!?!?

The FSESO website if full of instructors, broken down by city and area code. Find another.

As for a complaint, good luck. Your complaint at this point is you are being jerked around. That's not actionable.

In another life, I was an instructor/examiner with the FSESO.

Yeah I paid him $80 upfront for both exams. Not much, but I'm a 19y old uni student with no money.

Request your money back, be very nice about it, then move on to another instructor.
If you get the run around, explain this to your cfo, they will help out, someone has to be held accountable.
Got a recept for cash given to this person.?
 
If I were you I'd do an extensive forum search of the most popular posts involving asking where to find an instructor.

In each thread add a warning about this clown.

Did you say you paid by credit card? If so I'd contact them about the refund if he's ducking you.

Problem is that he's offered my money back and then gave me the runaround and then called back still offering my money. I have been as nice as possible upto this point, this time I told him that I'm deciding wether to file a complaint or not. He just goes "hehe, ok thanks anyways".

Paid by cash, don't have a credit card and wouldn't trust any small business with one either.
 
Yeah thats the way he is...... he has an office on the main floor and another room up on the 3rd where he conducts his classes. Guy doesnt even teach anyone properly and I believe he was suspended a couple of years back. Get a friend to call, set up a time to meet under the guise of taking a course, then go there and get your money back.
 
If this is a known issue, why the f**k is he still up on the FSSEO website?




Can we do an en mass CGN calling spree?

If you paid him and he is being an asshat thats wrong ............I don't know of any instructors wanting money up front simply because they know they might be hard to nail down in the future or might have scheduling conflicts

If this guy is pulling this like you say he shouldn't be
 
I called him after reading Sheik's last post.

He said to come over, and I said ok I'm coming and if you're not there then I'm calling the police for fraud. Then he said "listen don't talk to me like that ok" and then hung up. I redialled him again and he starts yelling "what do you want?" I said I want my money. He said then come over and if you're not here by 4:30 then you don't get your money back.

Any ways, I got my money back; he just gave me the money, took the receit and said good luck. No sorry or anything.


This is a warning to all CGN and future CGN members, don't deal with this guy, he is scum.

As stated get a friend to call him to set up a time and visit to get you money back. If that can't be done tell him to send you your money back at his cost by a MO or you're gonna call the fraud detachment at the local RCMP office. No instructor takes your cash before he teaches you, they take it 5 minutes before the course starts or that's how it happened for me and everyone I know.

actually there are a fair number of shooters with that ethnicity,who are pretty damn good people

Not cool but not new. Just bad experiences with incomprehensible people.
