Turkey eyesight is very good....or IS IT???

A wildturkey is not as smart as a weasel or 'yote or crow/raven...not even close.
But I would say they're about average with a deer.
I bet a deer would be as dumb as a rock if it wasn't for their incredible sense of smell.

Turkeys may not be smart, BUT, they are very weary/paranoid and see the slightest movement. They can't smell anything, I've smoked cigarettes while hunting and still come out with one in the bag. Their hearing is second to none. If you've examined one, you're notice the ear cavities are HUGE, and so are their eyes.

Think they're not a challenge to hunt, give it a go with a compound and let me know how it works for ya.

before people arrived there werent any predators, now we have wild dogs, cats, weasels, ferrets, stoats, rats ( that get the size of cats ), hawks

nothing like a yote or a bear though.

but my "turkeys are exceptionally dumb" statement comes from numerous times shooting mobs of them.. blasted one with the shotgun, had a laugh with my buddies, sat back down in the bushes and wait for them to come back, and within 3 -5 minutes the mob was back in the same spot.. drop another couple.. rinse and repeat

maybe ours are a lil more complacent than yours haha

stupid no but in the spring those ol'toms are horny as hell and wont pass up a chance for tail, when it comes to using decoys for turkeys i think of it kinda like beer goggles on us guys at the bar she might not be the best but in that situation anything will do lol

I have had a few Toms bug out to my old foam decoy's but last year I picked up a DSD hen and no more of that problem going on. Now if I could only afford the new Jake deke they brought out this year!!!!

Obviously you're not in Ontario? If you are, you'd be poaching.

I could sit in a hayloft all day and snipe them out at the $hitpile with a .22 one by one. But if you hunt in Ontario during the regular season, it's not that cut and dry.

Turkey's are exploding in Ontario. Wolves, yotes, weasels....whatever, they don't seem to affect populations much. #1, Unless they're babies....they can fly. #2, They run like the wind. #3, They're not so bad in a wrestling match...trust me.

turkeys arent that dumb. They all dissappeared since the season opens in 12 days! I havnt seen a turkey in probably 2 weeks. Had 2 huge flocks of atleast 50 id see everyday all winter long. I go out scouting and havnt heard or seen them. Starting to get worried.

Those were the winter flocks, they tend to disperse when spring hits. Find the thickest, scrubbiest nasty mess you can find, that is where the hens will be, they like to nest in that stuff. Where there are hens, there will be Toms;)

Oh, I think they are pretty clever :D

If turkeys are so dumb, why is the Ontario turkey hunting success rate only around 25%??? Kinda makes you wonder :p.

Think about how dumb the average hunter is, and then remember that half of them are dumber than that :D

I think the "dumb" turkeys are smarter than some of the idiots in the bush...

75% off turkey hunters are to dumb to shoot a Turkey which is suppose to be to dumb not to get killed by the hunters who are to dumb to shoot the dumb Turkeys which are dumb.
Conclusion Turkeys are smarter than 75% of hunters, and the smart hunters are only killing the dumb 25% of Turkeys leaving the smart ones to breed.
The future looks grim for the 75 % of dumb Hunters!!!
