What's above pretty much covers it all - the sights should get changed because they are subject to damage, so plan ahead - for the first short while the plastic ones will work. The more you shoot the better you'll get, or with some instruction you'll get better quicker and with less ammunition cost. Buy more magazines (like 5 or 6 more) it's really weird seeing guys at the range with tricked up handguns and only 2 mags. Don't get sucked into the idea that your pistol doesn't need cleaning and maintenance, clean it regularly and do the recomended spring changes. Some folks buy Glocks and think their gun cleaning / maintenance days are over - they aren't. Oh yeah, and take a look at pistol-training dot com. Lots of good info there.
Had one, when I first shot it, I wasn't holding it right, and the ejected brass kept on hitting me on the head.
So make sure you have the right grip, not necessary tight, but proper grip. Other than that, glocks are known for their durability, especially the G17.
Trigger can take a bit getting used to as well. Not really comparable to anything single action, out of box, but it can be tuned a little.
Accuracy... well, I thought my G17 was very picky about ammo as well as my grip on the gun. Takes quite a bit of practice to be able to shoot good, I guess that's why some cops are pretty lam shots... Factory barrel is good, but a custom barrel will always be better. For me, it's simply not the easiest pistol to be accurate with though.
Depends on what you want it for. If you just want something that goes bang every time, you made right choice. I tried IPSC Production with it, didn't work out for me.

I agree about the sights. There are lots of good ones in the market. Lots of LEOs have Trijicon night sights on their Glocks, but I have XS sights on one of mine. The big front sight dot helps in fast acquisition. I agree with the suggestions in the other post.

I have a g17c and like it alot. The trigger does take a bit to get used to. 9mm is cheaper so get out and shoot as much as you can.

Good choice. Upgrade the sights if you didn't buy it with the Trijicon already. Like any pistol, long range shooting (20 meters plus) will take some practice to tighten your groups. Trigger time and some professional training are a must - start on the right foot so you don't have to break any 'bad habits' later.

I have Henie(straight eight) sights on my G17 and after getting used to them I love them. The G17 is just extremely fun to shoot! You made a great decision. You rarely hear anyone regret buying a G17.

It is a proven fact that the human eye can correct vertical alignment quicker then horizontal alignment.
The Straight Eight Night Sight Configuration consists of a tritium dot in the front and a slightly smaller tritium dot in the rear which glow in the dark (night sights). When aligning this sight picture, put one dot on top of the other dot making an elongated figure eight. Thus, the "Straight Eight". The tritium dots are green in color and have a ten year warranty.

Night sights are not necessary for what we do, nice to have but hey are quite a bit more if you buy them after market as opposed to already on the gun. Heinie make a really nice set of sights for the Glock. extra mags are a must, and if you are going to compete with it, a nice rig.
Then I would say you are ill informed. Dry firing a Glock(or any quality pistol) does no harm.
