anybody guess what this is?

Good to see another project getting started right here on CGN.

Best of Luck. I hope it does bear fruit. If the costs do end up soaring, try selling shares in a company right here on CGN to build it. CGN Sporting Rifles Inc. :)

Great project that I am keeping tabs on. My vote is for FAL mags because thats what's in the basement.
I have a heavy (FALO) barreled FAL semi that I, of course, cannot shoot. Anything similar in 7.62 has me on the waiting list.

first off i already considered 7075 but was unable to locate a peice in the time frame i wanted so 6061 is strong enough for the prototype. I usually deal with steel and i forgot how easily aluminum mills when you know how, nothing is set in stone yet thats why its called prototyping. I simply thought you guys might appreciate the aia or ai mags as its a legal 10 round mag and of course the fal mag looks cooler cause its longer but with half the capacity.

The purpose of this project was to build a non-restricted 308 military styled rifle that you can hunt with and the average hunter can purchase also to provide a yes answer to all the threads on here asking about a non-res 308 black rifle lol.
almost forgot the best part its MADE IN CANADA

Ive already talked to the cfo about upgrading my business license to a manufacturers license and the word is it shouldnt be a problem except for the $1100 cost to do so, which i might have a hard time sparing these days

Just a tip, Blue stratus:

On the forum do not use 'g3', 'FAL' or any other prohib, followed by the word 'style'.

It may affect classification, even if purely cosmetic.

i notice that your OSW is that south western ontario, if so are you near kitchener?
and at 12-1500 i would hit that up for sure :)

also I would go with the enfeld mags as well. you might even see if the Ranger program would be interested in looking at this rifle.

yep southern ontario but an hour or so from kitchener to the south. 10 mins off lake erie, closest big city is hamilton.

cash and parts donations always welcome lol

almost a bingo
its 308 based loosly on a 180b but i call it a herron arms 181a

You better never mention 180 anywhere at all. Don't even say 180b either.

This is what is prohibited:

The firearm of the design commonly known as the Armalite AR-180 Sporter carbine, and any variant or modified version of it.

Thus, if you don't want to deal with RCMP "technicians" who don't really understand interpretation "variant or modified version of it," I would stay away from those 3 numbers.

too late ive explained to them what my basis for design was, i had a few dealings with the technicians and i know george from a verifiers course i was on a couple years ago.

Then good luck. Remember, to get Armalite has lawyers who had to prove that AR-180B is not AR-180 to ATF (still ATF posted few warnings) and is eligible for sale to civilians in US. That's why it was quite easy for them to prove to CFC that it's not a variant of AR-180.

However, if you manage to get your design through, get a patent, because you can use it to create a new non-restricted firearm. Even better, using your receiver, you can adapt it to take AR-15 uppers.... or AR-10 uppers....

Yeah, it probably would be. It should be legal as long as it's not actually an AR10 lower because of different mag and internals, but god knows that the cfc doesn't rule on anything logically. 8.5" shotgun with fixed stock = NR, 8.5" shotgun with pistol grip = restricted???? 33 round glock pistol mag pinned to 10 = legal, 20 round AR15 pistol mag pinned to 10 = prohibited, 20 round AR15 mag pinned to 5 = legal???

Regarding patents oof which I have three and worked onmany more, FORGET IT! It is expensive, it is a lot of work and does NOT protect the intelectual property. Just a few cosmetic changes and your patented gizmo is legally copied and could be recopied. As Ihave done with oneof my paents and others have done with mine!

You need a good business plan and good lawyers (expensive) to be succesfull with anything that is mechanical!

Henry
BTW, AI or Remington mags would be good!

These are less expensive and a very good copy! PM me for info.;)

Just curious, is it blue for a reason? Is that the colour you chose, or is it just some kind of production thing?

Anyone can roll their own ammo. Not everyone can build a bang stick from the ground up. Kudos!

If you are still looking for bulk barrel blanks, please send me a PM. I can supply.

Also, consider the new Savage 10rd mags for their BAS tactical rifle. Center feed and likely a whole lot cheaper then the AI's.

If you need promag Enfield-2A 10rds 308 mags, I can help there too. Quite inexpensive mags but not sure how they will work in a semi??????

finish will be hard anodized or some kind of gunkote

We all want the Australian International Arms Enfield 10 rounders I think... they already work in a semi so should be easy to use.
