Recommend a scope power..

There was a new Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 in the EE for $250.00. Its a good scope for the money and has hash marks that will allow you to estimate holdover out to 500 yards. I have two of them, both on 308's and I think they are a great buy.

I have the Cabelas Pine Ridge 6-18X40 with turrets and side parallax on my .270win and I'm very pleased with it thus far. I originally ordered the 3-12x but it was backordered so I otped for the 6-18x and glad I did. I hunt in and around hilly cutblocks mostly. The duplex reticle is tack sharp at any range and I can dial up to 36MOA from 100yd zero with std rings. The other day I tried my hand at LR plinking and was ringing 12" targets @885yd. Excellent value for $180!
I'm not sure if they are currently available. They were B/O last time I checked.

according to rule of thumb, that 7x is a 210 yard scope- just barely meets the MINIMUM yardage-

110% pure steaming pile of BULLs**t

explain to me how I can possibly bust clays at 300yrd with my 4x?

rule of thumb- 3x for every 100 yards- really doesn't matter what the target is,unless you want to precision work- your mPbr on a 308/180 is 267 yards, so a 3x9 x40 works nicely

so 267yrds PBR for my 180gr RN and my 165gr Matchking? PBR is subjective. not everyone uses +/-6", I use =/-3". and your max PBR with a .308 is completely dependant on the load you're using.

a 2-7x scope will handle everything you need to 400yrds.

Agreed.

So, what was the power of the scope the Canadian Sniper used to make that 2400 odd metre shot? What do they use to 1000m or so?

I believe the new 338 Timberwolf uses a 4x16
