Remmington R15

Search came up with nothing for me, tried this forum and the hunting rifle forum, and all forums.

then I went back several pages searching the topics and still nothing.

So I made a topic and picked a title that is easily searchable and easily found.

I'm still buying a R15 :p even thought the black rifle forum is unfriendly, not like milsurp where everyone is helpfull and friendly :nest: :p

:D

Just ordered one :dancingbanana:

I think that the 18" barrel with the midlenght gas system is as close to optimal for an all around service rifle as you'll get. :D

So I'll have to order some duracoat/armacoat or whatever, and get my hands on some good cleaning/stripping chemicals :D thats stage 1

stage 2 will be later and involve a lathe and a flashhider :D

If you are going to duracoat your R15, I would guess you will have to sand blast the camo finish. Good duracoat adhesion depends on a surface completely stripped of finish.

I have a line on some industrial cleaner that should take the paint off :D I was told that it would take anything off metal including the rust  I still have to check if its safe on aluminium parts. Think it was MEK or some such stuff, used to clean aircraft parts, I don't think its legal in the US :D but if its used on aircraft is should be safe on aluminum

Search seems OK ...

Strange ... curious, I just typed R15 into the Black and Green Rifle forum search box, and got those aforementioned 29 hits. You didn't perhaps put a space between the R and the 15? That yields nothing ... I just tested it.

I just did another search and read about 20 threads, of them only 2 had any good information the rest was all crap

Looks like there are about 3 people that actually own R15 rifles. but a lot of opinions :p

Then you must have only done ONE click instead of two.

I selected the black rifles forum (click number one)

I selected a date range of the past 36 months. (click number two)

Other than putting in R15 as a search term..............that is all that is required to get 29 threads one of which naturally is this one.

I tried this and DID get 29 results, but I think Stormy's clicky math is a bit off. You also have to (click number 3) ... "Search Now" :p

After you strip the camo finish, use some medium steel wool to roughen the finish.

I took mine out to Genesse on the weekend, I loaded some 77gr. noslers and went to town. Due to visability I wasn't able to get any out to 700M, but the rifle was doing well all the way to 600M. I think you'll be happy with your choice.

did some diggging in my reloading bench and only had to buy primers. I had dies and brass allready stockpiled. I sized, trimmed, and primed 150 pieces of winchester brass ready for reloading now.

Just need to decide what I'll be shooting, I use 55grn Noslers in my 22-250, but apperently I can go heavier with the faster twist :D

Rifle should arrive today or tommorow :D

perhaps I'll get to shoot it this weekend,

well rifle came yesterday so a quick cleaning was in order.

I've seen much better finishes on rifles and I'm not impressed by that camo finish, I think it will chip off over time. But I bought the rifle as a project anyways.

First problem I run into, in my parts bin I have some spare scopes. Well I don't have rings that work  I have all low rings and the only scope that I can actually get to clear the reciever and cocking handle is an old 2.5x bushnell that came off an enfield, and with low rings its so low that you can't even get your eye lined up with the scope, one hell of a cheek weld  Need taller rings or a riser of some sort I guess.

So I'll have to look for something else to use inteh short term, :) till I decide what I'm going to put on top.

Check out the Millets at P&D, while you're at it pick up an Armalite mount. Or you could pick up the Armalite mount and use one of your scopes. You shouldn't have any issues. We've got two other AR's both with Timneys(to be honest I haven't tried too many other custom triggers, but they work like a hot damn for me), Although this one's trigger isn't quite there, it's pretty good and seems to be smoothing out with use.
