7mm-08 with a 140 Rem core-lokt has as much energy at 200yds as a 30-30 with a 170gr core-lokt does at the muzzle and has about the same energy at 350 yds as the 30-30 has at 150 yds.

Even though the 30-30 isn't a preferred Moose caliber any more there isn't a Moose alive that can stand up to a 30-30 under 150yds!

What? The 30-30 throws around 720 foot lbs @ 200yds (depending on bl length) while the 7mm-08 throws 1795 ft lbs. In fact will push 1005 ft lbs out to 500 yds.
Great calibre. I use it for everything I can hunt.

Oh god Dennis you've started another 'chainsaw for quartering moose' thread!

As for the 7-08, the 7X57 kills many, many, many moose, and the 7-08 may be the ballistic superior of the two.

The 7x57 and 7-08 Remington are basically ballistic twins in handloads, and I have personally slain 8 moose with the 7x57 [and never a second shot at any!] Range varied from 40 yards to well over 300. My bullet of choice was always the 140 or 150 Partition. Cartridges in this class are particularly mild to shoot and very effective on all North American cervids. Regards, Eagleye.
