Hi all!

Im about to put my 1954 Russian SKS back in one piece and was wondering before I actually shoot it is there anything I should look for ?

I mean is it safe to use ? I hear about slamfire and all sorts .. I have CZ corrosive ammunition but not the spring fire pin. DOes the trigger assembly should be checked ?

Im not a gunsmith and more a newbie to rifles, I only have shoot rimfires for now..

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

clean it thoroughly , particularly the bolt, disassemble completely , after reassemblying , use no oil , firing pin should rattle freely .

i recommend loading only two rounds the first time but read the sticky "how to" on the bottom page .... then have fun fun fun .

Thanks Curtton :)

Actually it is disassembled right now and just got my ammunition as well as Birchwood Casey Gun cleaner.

I need to disassembled the bolt itself though I tried tapping on the pin but it aint moving grr I will have to try again as it is very greasy/oily in there but I see the firing pin is already free floating.
Im just not used to fire big calibers should be a very interesting experience to say the least as the bullets are a lot bigger than .22 :D
