I talked to a guy who said his buddy's have had great success with 'doe bleat in a can' calls. Does anybody have any experience or recommendations?

YES! Last year was the first year I tried a doe bleat "can", the type you turn over to make the sound...

I had two does come into it, combined with rattling and buck grunts... BUT, this year, I actually heard a doe bleat call and it is NO WHERE near as loud as the can you buy...

So, next year, I think I will be putting a piece of something over the top of the can to muffle it...

Cheers

P.S. I believe ALL calling will work, it just depends on volume and the receptiveness of deer at that time of the season!!!

I have experimented with the same type of turn it over style.

We usually throw all the pumpkins outside the deer camp window that are left over from halloween and the deer come right in at night during dseer season and munch on them. One night I turned on the outside light and 4 or 5 were standing there and paid no attention to the lights so I opened the window and started grunting at them with a grunt call and they didn't even lift there heads. Then I tried the doe bleat can, same response. Went to a fawn bleat mouth call and every one of their heads flew up to see what was wrong. All it really told me was that I scared the hell out of them with it or it is the only one that really gets their attention.

I have used them successfully many times to call in does...and occassionally, but far less often to call in bucks. Guess they just have to be in the right mood.

Called in 2 bucks this past weekend with the Primos can. But they were hot and came back for a short grunt on the quad grunter. One buck didn't make a grunt, more like "bleeb"

I've done the same thing behind our camp, with exactly the same response.
At least they didn't run away, so maybe the calls made them feel more comfortable? Or were they just ignoring the guy with the call?

I have not used the 'can', but I have had success with one of the combination calls - that you can adjust the tone from grunt to bleat.

My brother-in-law called in two bull moose earlier this year with his doe bleat call. Worked well on them. (lol)

I have been carrying one for 2 seasons now. I've been useing it in combination with doe in heat lure. called in a small spike with it second week of the 2004 season. final day of the 2005 season I was walking in to my stand when a big buck crashed out of the bushes and stared down the old cut road in front of me. called once and the buck stopped and came troting back towards me held up around 50-60 meters if that. But I used the same call all season and never got any responce until then with it.

I've used several and prefer the Pimos can the best. Someday's it just doesn't work and they ignore it (I've tried it while watching bucks that weren't worth shooting) other days it works great. On cold calm days I cup my hand over the top to muffle the sound or it will be too loud. Any other day I just tip it 3 or 4 times and wait 20 minutes.

I also have "the can" and I can say that I have heard alot of deer grunting and makeing all sorts of noises but not to close to the sound of this thing. I had it in my archery stand and had some does off about 100 yards feeding along a trail. when I turned that can over they got the hell out of the R.M. forsure. Never tried that thing again. I second the "pretty Loud" motion.

If any ever see's an "Olt perfect deer call" any where polease buy it for me will you... I lost mine and have never been able to find one since. It is probably the best deer call ever made!

I picked one up at SIR, the smaller HS Calls one. It doesn't sound particularly loud to me, but since it's going to be -19C on Saturday morning the sound should carry for miles. I'll stay mindful that it may need to be muffled somewhat. Thanks for all the help.

Grouseman, one last piece of advice... Start quiet and work your way up to being a little louder. Stay alert, they often come sneaking in to see what's up and OFTEN from the downwind side...

Cheers and GOOD LUCK!

Last year i called in three bucks using a combination calls - that you can adjust the tone from grunt to bleat. So this year i bought a can call. I used it for four days of our five day hunt. I had no success at all with it. I went back to my combination call on the friday night and had a buck tearing the area in the bush in front of me apart. Unforutunatly i ran out of light before i got to see him. Maybe the reason i didn't do well with the can was the loudness of it, from what i read hear. I will justr have to experiment with it next year.

Personally I haven't had the pleasure of hearing one, but do you think the can only sounds louder because it's in your hand and not down the field?
