I had the chance to molest a new Ruger SR9 (in OD green and black slide, stainless slide just ain't my style) this weekend at a store, felt nice in my hand and price was definately right! ($525 plus tax)

Anyone have any trigger time with one? Pros/Cons? One of the guys in there said the biggest problem with them was the recall, but even then it wasn't that big of a deal. I guess it kinda makes the manual safety useless now?

I think there are better choices out there. Glock, S&W M&P, for example in a polymer framed gun. I think the CZ Phantom also looks good but I have not seen one.

I've got one with close to 300 rounds through it now. Had one failure to feed but that was when a friend of mine was shooting it and I'm sure it was his grip. I've had no jams in it, personally.

The one I got did have the gritty heavy trigger but I put a bit of work in polishing up the guts and I cut just over one coil off the striker spring which backed the trigger pull from about 11 lbs if I recall correctly to 5ish. There are other folks in one of the Ruger forums that have done the same thing (they got the idea from me) and have had very similar results. As always YMMV

For me it was worth it to put in the work because I like the look of it and the feel of it. It fits my smallish hands very well.

Is it an excellent firearm right out of the box? That seems to be hit and miss. Does it have tons of potential if it isn't? Definitely, and I won't be parting with mine. Glad as hell that I got it.

Ruger "anyhting" are made to be workhorses. I like the extra safety for LEO use.If you lose it in a fight, while the bad guy is trying the trigger to no avail, you can simply baton him to the head (deadly force encounter, no red zones!) and regain control of the pistol. The safety looks like it's located similar to a 1911 and should be easy to instinctively sweep down on the draw and point. Basically a Glock with a manual safety.

Do you have any experience with the sr9 other than maybe felt one up once. You make these comments, care to elaborate. I have one post recall and am total impressed after 900 rounds. Best bang for the buck, except for the $99.00 Norinco.

Experience ?
How about the slide stop which broke after 35 rounds ?
How about the extractor which gave up after less than 100 rounds ?
How about non existant accuracy ? this may have to do with the 40 lbs trigger pull....

Try the STI GP 6, very impressed with them, great for smaller hands, very easy to shoot, and that wonderfull trigger pull! Took a couple of deputy sherriff types to the range with one of these, they were ready to throw away their Glocks! Even converted a die hard 1911 nut to this.

Wow.... I hope you sent it away for warrenty...... Ruger is supposed to be really good that way.

The youtube review posted earlier in the thread had a few little things that "could have been better" but overall the review was positive..... He does state in the review that the gun is new so he can say nothing about reliability or length of use as it hasn't been around that long.

I know 2 people who have one and they both think its "ok" both feel it could be better...... the quote "its no glock, but it shoots better than one" was heard......

I hope that you got a dud, and that Ruger will make it right...... otherwise I may loose all faith in Ruger.......
