looking at Tikka T3 hunter 300 win mag, Browning X-Bolt Medallion 300 win mag, both in wood stocks. About the same price. What makes one better then the other?? facts plz or personal exper. thx

I have a T3 camo synthetic stainless and a Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker.
I like both pretty much equally but i would have to say if one ever needed to go it would be the Browning! The T3 has a super slick bolt and the trigger is amazing right from the factory.....very accurate as well!! No Complaints on either!!

Either Of them is a fine choice!!!;)

The T3 has a very small butt end footprint. I wouldn't buy one in a magnum. In the past, Brownings have suffered from the same problem. You may want to buy a heavier rifle for that caliber.

Put a Limbsaver pad on it for $45 and the recoil becomes a non-issue, except for choosing rings. See the thread "purely function" in this forum for info. I have the Talleys on my T3 lite .270 and highly recommend them, along with the Tikka itself of course.:)

like the rem 700 cdl.?
That would be another good choice. Heavier, bigger and comes with a good pad.

Limbsavers are good pads and will help, but the stock butt size always has an effect on felt recoil no matter what pad you install.

I've got nothing against the T3 other than the smallish stock which exacerbates felt recoil.

I'll recommend Sako or Wby Mark V, but if the budget is a problem, then you can go with something cheaper, but heavier for yr 300WM cal choice
I have a Sako 85 SS in 338WM and it's a real good hunting rifle, well ballanced and high quality.

I would get a Winchester Model 70, Ruger 77, or even the above mentioned Remington 700 CDL over a Tikka or Browning.

If a detachable mag is your preference, the Savage Model 114 American Classic may be an option worth considering.
