Import Ammo US to Canada new question

This is a new question I have looked and have been unable to find an answer. My wife has a US hunting licence and we are plaing a trip to the US later this year. On our return I would like to bring back 5000 round under me and another 5000 hers. I have an PAL and my wife does not, but beacasue she has a US hunting licence she can buy the ammo on the US side. The return is the question, can she bring back 5000 not having a PAL? You don't need a licence to own ammo?

Any one know if this is ok or not? Want to stay on the good side of the law.
 
Not allowed...PERIOD ( unless with permits )

Having said that I really wish they would put up notices at points of sale in the US stating :

" ATTN non residents/aliens it is a prohibition to acquire posses ammunition "

In the the land of redundancy where they tell you that seat belt use is mandatory DAY and NIGHT in 10' x 10' signs , and they post signs every 18" in grocery stores no booze-cigarettes to minors you would hope they would announce the 'prohibition of acquisition'........
 
Note in the act it does not say the person bring it requires a Licence.

But I think in your case, it ISN'T what Canadian laws will let you bring IN, it's what American laws WON't let you take OUT.
 
Yeah thats a good one, one of my favs is still the sign just north of Lynden Washington announcing " Seat Belt use Mandatory Day and Night in Wash. State "
 
Also with a State Hunting Licence you can both acquire and posses ammunition and it list no limit. Correct me on this if I am wrong? I go hunting yearly on my land in the US and never had an issue buying. State is VA.
 
If the issue is Export than I will have the needed forms from ATF? But the issue I am asking can my wife bring ammo in not having a PAL? Canadian side is my problem, not the US export.

Yes, it allows you to buy and possess. It does not allow you to export. You either shoot it all or leave it behind.

You have it backwards. The US export is the problem.

For starters you need a US export license which can only be held by a US citizen. You really should read the sticky in this forum.
 
"...have the needed forms from ATF..." It's not the ATF. It's the U.S Commerce and State Departments. The 5,000 round(for personal use only) rule is Canadian and has nothing to do with U.S. law. U.S. law requires their export permit that requires a Canadian import permit to get. It takes serveral months to get one and non-US residents can't apply for one.
Your wife can't buy ammo in Ontario, but that has nothing to do with what is allowed Stateside either. A POL/PAL is required to acquire ammo in Canada.

No, your problem would be FINDING 5000 rounds in the US to buy first and foremost.

Let's say you go to Zimbabwe and buy 8000 rounds, but your wife has no PAL. She can bring 3000 rounds in anyway, because PAL is not required for possession or importation.

In Zimbabwe that much ammo will cost you hundreds of Trillions of dollars (Zim dollars that is) ;)

Not many countries have the draconian export restrictions the US puts on arms/ammo exports.


And as targettarget said, it will be difficult to find that much ammo in the US, FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. There is much less of a difference in the price of ammo now, and things like milsurp is often cheaper in Canada.
