F-class Hunter / Sporter category

Ok.... for the sake of curiosity lets say a fellow acquires a Savage Mod 12 LRPV in 6 Norma BR....now after a period of time and a ton of shooting the barrel gets tired. In order to keep the gun in its respective class does the replacement barrel have to be a factory Savage barrel or can an aftermarket barrel of same length / twist be used to replace the factory original.
Please advise if my questions become too dumb.....

If shooting in a "Factory" class then an aftermarket barrel would take you out of the class. By then though, you should have enough rounds under your belt to slap on a nice custom barrel (such as a Krieger) and compete in Open class with the rest of us hillbillies.

Kevan,

This is exactly how the whole thing is supposed to work. Shoot a match w/ whatever you've got, get hooked, and then start pulling the gear together to shoot more. Richard is right- one barrel life is enough time to get comfortable and start forming some ideas about how much you want to compete, and in which class. You don't have to decide everything now- and you might be amazed how much your personal tastes for equipment change as you shoot a season. Go set up a rig, shoot it for the season, and pay attention to the other gear on the line. Bend the ears of the other shooters, and start sorting out what is most comforable for you. You're well on your way- except for this talk of the Dark side. :D We F/TR folks are the ones bathed in the Light.:nest:

Kevan, nice to see you entering the F class fold. It is a hoot and I am sure you will be hooked soon enough.

Grab a rifle, load up some ammo and come on out.

Obtunded, I think the concept is great but I am concerned that some who do show up with their hunting rifle may get discouraged looking at a Savage F(O) competing in the same class.

I have debated factory classes over the years and there is no easy answer. This is one of the few classes where you can buy your way to a competitive advantage. I hope that you can come up with criteria that allows some equipment freedom but limits the gaming.

Hoping to see you all on the line soon...

Jerry

I was certainly looking forward to it, had made some big plans, but this am at work I got a lay-off notice along with the rest of the guys.
Any F-class shooting in the immediate future will be attempted with my old heavy barrel 308 instead of a fancy 6BR.
But hey, thats the way it goes, my motto is Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed and that also goes for my shooting .
Every time I go to a match I meet terrific people and go home happy regardless of where I finish...for me thats the bottom line. :)

Nothing wrong with the 308. You get to shoot in F(F) with the other 308's and 223's.

Bummer about the work situation. An unfortunate reality of the present economy. Hope things bounce back for you asap.

Take care...

Jerry

Sorry to hear about work, but don't be too bummed about having to shoot F/F. Cough up the specs on your rifle, and I'd be happy to help out w/ some load ideas.
