I'm thinking of buying an non-1911 .45ACP semi-auto pistol, now there are three options in my mind, Glock 21, M&P 45acp and the XD 45. I searched the forum but 'M&P' didn't return anything... what are Pros & Cons of these pistols? personally I like the look of m&p better. Thanks for your opinions.

45

there are other great designs
like the CZ 97B...
not a polymer framed gun, if this is important for you,
but one of the best buys on the market and very accurate.

I've owned a CZ 97B, yes it's a great gun but the grip is too big for my hands, I just sold it couple of days ago.

You might want to leave the G21 off the short list until you hold it. 75% of the people who have tried mine said it was too big for them...

That said I love mine. It fits me well. Hell and back reliability, lots of mods available to customize it to your taste. If you can hold it you will probably like it.

Which one feels the best?

You can expect all three to be reliable. Except for the XD-45ACP's ghetto booty, which, I found, made it hard to love and impossible to conceal, the size difference isn't significant.

Service, aftermarket parts, and holster availability might favour the Glock. While the trigger action of the G21 and M&P are very similar, the XD-45ACP is very different, long - with a lot of aftertravel - and with a long reset. The grip feel is different for each and if you only hold them you'll know which you prefer. Some people like the Glock and some don't. The M&P45 has grip adjustability (and it fits me better than the others) and it's magazine was originally designed to hold only ten rounds - unlike the others that (in Canada) have limited/reduced capacities - and so it is markedly smaller. With you being used to the 1911, know that the XD-45ACP requires a low-thumb position (that neither the G21 nor the M&P require). The XD also has an ambidextrous magazine release (that, IMO, does not work as smoothly as the others).

IMO, the XD suffers greatly by comparison.

If you can grip it comfortably, get the Glock 21 .45 Auto...HANDS DOWN. Super-accurate, and has a sharp re-set trigger. The Glock 21 is one of the best .45's I've ever owned along with the Mark23 and long list of Colt 1911's.

If you can shoot a G21SF and compare the muzzle jump to a 1911 I think you'll like it. The barrel is closer the top of your hand which sends more force back rather than up. I also really love the short trigger reset. When you let the triger out you hear/feel a click after 1/8" or 3.17mm. Below is a video of the reset in slow motion. Everybody likes something different though so if you can try first that's the way to go.

I have a XD45 and the recoil is not big deal. You'll be alright. Adopt a good grip position and you will be good to go.

I have fired the XD45 (thanks to Cocked&Locked) and did like it a lot. Much more so than a 1911 or the Ruger P345 (the only other .45's I've handled).
I shy away from the XD only because of what I've heard should you need spare parts.

I just picked up the M&P45 and have put 100 rds through it. I love it. With the adjustable grips it fits nicely and the recoil feels very similar to my BHP 9mm. Shoots well right out of the box too.

I was lucky enough to be given a chance to shoot a glock and an M&P in 9 mm at the range the other night by a couple fellow shooters.

I favor the M&P as it fit my hands better and had different grips that were easy to install. Nothing against glocks as it worked well. The hand grip was to big and it just didn't work for me.

I don't know if you can get an opportunity to shoot all those guns but it sure is nice to try them out before you buy one.
