1. savage 12 or 16 stainless
2.rem 700 sps ssdm
3. browning x- bolt
4. tikka t-3

it will be for hunting only, in 30/06. why whould you make your choice?

I would go with the Tikka it will shoot good out of the box, maybee the Browning, stay away from Reminton the quality has gone drasticaly downhill over the past few years. 30-06 is a great choice will work for anything.

I chose the 12FVSS in .308 because I like heavy barrels. They fit me well and make me more accurate. The only bad thing about it is the stock is mildly wobbly.

Probably the X-Bolt. Since you didn't ask, I won't suggest another rifle. Or another cartridge.
By the way, I'm having a hard time finding a Rem SPS DM in stainless on their website. Is it new?

No, they are a limited edition that has been out for about 3 years, but has never been on the website or in the catalogue. Comes in .30-06 or .300WM only, P&D have some.

Seems like I missed the drastic downhill slide of quality at Remington over the past few yrs. [ ] If this is fact true, there are tons of used 700s out there in 30/06 that might be up to snuff.

Hint ..... Buy an SPS and you will get an SPS. Buy a CDL and you will get a nicer rifle.

Browning X-bolt

Just bought the X-Bolt Stainless Stalker in 280Rem , as it checks all the boxes for me -

1st - tang safety that I can reach without moving my hand when I have the gun on the shooting sticks.

2nd - 60 - 70 degree bolt throw.

3rd - Flush fit detachable mag that holds 4 cartridges.

4th - Under 7lbs

5th - Synthetic Stalk with grip panels or some type of Dura touch stock.

6th - Stainless

7th - Adjustable trigger

X-bolt has easily the most refined feel to it. The Tikka to me feels a touch less refined but both will shoot like a champ. Remington still makes a decent shooter (and I like 24" barrels on my .30-06's - it's the only rifle which has one) and so does Savage, but they wouldn't be my first choice.
