Issues with Ross Rifle?

Dimitri - I have a stripped Mk. III receiver from one of the Indian drill rifles. It has the stump of a barrel in the receiver ring, secured by a welded in pin. It is junk as far as being a receiver goes. If you could use it for study purposes, you can have it for the postage. PM your mailing address.

Dmitri,

Not wanting to be another nay-sayer, but WWI was not the sole reason the 276 project was dropped. There were several developmental problems with the cartridge. Tony Edwards is the guy you want to talk to about the 276 round. Tony has done a lot of research and written a couple of books about British military ammunition. Tony posts a lot on this WWI forum under the name TonyE.

If you post a question about the 276 I'm pretty sure he'll answer.

I'm sure you were talking about 280 Ross dies when you said they were available from C&H? I'd be very surprised if anyone makes dies for the 276 since it was never commercially loaded and nothing to my knowledge was ever chambered for it beyond the few P-13 experimental rifles.

A person by the name "Romeo 33 Delta" (Aka Bill) on the MilSurps board had the help of CH-4D make dies for the 276 Enfield. And they are currently listed on the site as available for 80$.

He also chambered a P14 rifle to this round.

I usually end up doing things like this too...and spend a lot of time looking for obscure parts that are very hard to locate...so I understand the quest!
