1911 tests - enough to make TDC's head explode.

Found this on another forum while doing some surfing regarding the 1911...I should preface by saying that I'm a fan of the Glock - I just shoot the 1911 better.

Here's another link to some 1911 tests:

Let the fun begin.....:dancingbanana: (Just kidding TDC - as the official CGN Glock fanboy you have to expect a bit of ribbing... :D)

Date? Link?

Like I've posted before. If your pistol is a toy then it doesn't matter whether or not its reliable and simple to operate. If your life depends on it, well, we all know who wins that one.

TDC

Do any of you other 1911 fan's see the Irony in this post?......toy guns ARE made of plastic:D

Couldn't find his post about the ruined Glocks but I did see it...found this though...

On our range the frame generally outlasts the slide. Certainly the SIGs have outlasted Glocks, Czs, S&W, and Berettas.

I have only been using a steel framed SIG for about 3 months so I can't say if they are better yet.

Here's another...
The SIGPro is amazing. It has outlasted a good many big name guns. FWIW the polymer framed guns last as long as anything else. It is as often or not the slides that fail. The problem with Glock and HK polymer frames is that the rails are not replaceable when they fail. The SIGPro design allows replacemnt (although they have not failed after more than 3 years on the range).

Maybe we can end this thread here....
I managed to talk to one of the guys who has, all of the guns fished out of the sewers, conduits, etc, for the Metro Toronto Police , sent to him, for testing before they end up on the 'Police evidence' shelves...
He claims, categorically, that the only make of firearm that passes the 'shake it off, put in a mag with some fresh ammunition in, rack the slide and pull the trigger, and it goes "bang"' are Glocks.............
Try that with your 'Vickers's Tactical Firearm of the Week'......!

1911=art form
Glock= Function

I am not an operator just a goon that was raised on shooting. If I was an operator that got to call my side arm it would be a glock.

If I was a rich man I would have a Vickers 1911...Man those are just amazing.

Again I don't know s**t about tactics and stuff but my 1911 colts jam/stovepipe/and fte. My G22 is functional perfection. She is a tupperware fugly ##### but she delivers...But has been modified as has the 1911.

To all those that depend on their side arms for their life please take my opinion as just that....My post and GF analogy is just based on my experience at the range and in competition.

I am just glad that I have both...Man that 1911 trigger is amazing...Man that Glock runs like a top.

Ok time to walk the dog by the river with a cold can...Goes easy bros

Good points here. You should send your colt to gunnar at Armco...he should be able to work out any problems.

I have shot with gunner at his clubs IPSC match and also at the POCO club in the Vancouver area. He is a great guy to say the very least.

His 'tweeked' 1911s and general pistol work are an illistration of plain old school attention to detail.

I am really not qualified to comment on Glock vs 1911 except in IPSC (my 2 season run) I ditched my 3xcolts when my GF bought me a G22. Damn gun loads,fires and maintaines much easier than my 1911 platforms. Again this is just my call.

Here is the real answer. If you want a 1911 to run you have to send it to the smith for work that should have been done at the engineering or production levels. Answer me this, would any of you buy a hammer that required you to mount the head to the handle before use? Would any of you buy a dull knife?

TDC

Here's a better question... would any of you guys that are fans of glocks were told that only gun you carry was a 1911 would you feel bad? Would any of you 1911 guys feel guilty about havnig a glock strapped to your side all day long?

I wouldn't.

That depends? Going to war with a factory 1911 or a factory Glock out of the box?
What if it was a Norc? A Para? an STI? A Wilson Custom? That all changes things. But the glock would be a no brainer out of the box, into the fray.

since there are lots of 1911 clones, and they have different quality. it's better to compare Colt to Glock, that's one manufacturer vs. another manufacturer. otherwise, it's not fair.

Ever since I bought my Glock the 1911 guys give me a hard time to no end. The Remington crowd does the same to the Savage guys. I still want a 1911, purely nostalgic reasons I guess.
