Best and crappiest rings for Tikka

Hi all.

I know what the crappiest rings for Tikkas are: the ones supplied by Beretta. I have gone through two sets of those after a recent purchase of Tikka T3 in .30-06. First set of rings took 29 shots to completely drive the locating pin through the metal of the rings, if you know what I am talking about. If not, just imagine what would happen with the (not-so-hypothetical) rings made with crappy soft metal if you drove a FMJ bullet thought them. The result would be pretty close to what I had my rings look like after 29 shots. The second pair of Beretta rings took 3 (three) shots before the metal started to show the signs of breaking. So, there is your contender for the crappiest rings ever made. An open question is which rings are actually good (and where to buy them for less than half of my salary)? I have a feeling optilock may be good, but let's see what you think.

Optilock's are probably the most solid rings you can put on it. However, unlike the Sako, the Tikka's are drilled & tapped, allowing you to use almost any system available. If I were you, I'd have a hard look at the Talley Lightweight one piece combos, very light and solid as well, and about $60 for the set...

Other options would be weaver bases and Burris Signature Zee rings, or standard Leupold bases and rings...
 
+2 on the Leupold rings and bases - they work great, and are reasonably priced (compared to the Optilocks!),

Millet rings with the two little 'tabs' that hold the rail suck arse as well.
 
I have Optilocks on my T-3.... they are a very solid set up. Like canucklehead said, I've heard that the Millet rings suck.
 
i like the talley one piece. they hold up fine to magnum recoil and are quite light. resonable in cost and secure. the optilocks are heavy and too tall not to mention the cost factor.
 
i would look hard at Warne - once they are clamped onto the Tikka - i cant imagine them coming off.

Tally is great as well


BTW I use the Millet on a Sako 375 AI with no issues whatsoever for several years
 
I am so old school when it comes to bases and rings..

For my Hunting rifles only (that I will never sell) Give me a set of leupold steel bases, lock tighted and I always pin them!! that is right I drill through and pin them they do not move, I use Stainless pins with a punch, along with epoxy and red lock tite... than give me a set of steel Zee burris rings or talleys something Steel I lock them on..
 
Worst "brand name" rings = Millet.

Best rings? Take your pick:

-EAW rings - scary well made.
-Talley (the lightweights are OK, but their screw-locks and QD stee lrings are EXTREMELY well made (serial numbered to each other!) and are bullet-proof.
-Warne, but you have to live with ugly-@ss weaver bases.
 
how do the shims work???

good idea to protect a new $900 scope.
does talley have shims?

how do the shims work???
easy to install for average guy and results are no scope marks and solid mount?
