They are an expendable item. They do wear out. That being said, I've never worn one out but I'm not heavy user, so can't say how long they last. We are talking g AR mags, right?
If you're using 5/30's, I doubt you will ever wear them out. Loading it up to 5 rounds when it's meant for 30, probably does nil to the spring. Mind you, I'm not an expert, just offering an opinion. And before anyone asks, there is no such thing as "spring set" from leaving mags loaded. Springs get weakened by use.
AR mags will wear out : you'll drop them, walk on them... and as soon have you have a feeding problem throw them away... PMAGs are another specie by themselves
I actually posted this in regard to my mag fed dominion arms shotgun. It's impossible to get spare mags at the moment and I just don't want to render the gun useless by wearing out the magazine. Should I be good for acouple thousand rounds before it wears out or maybe wait unit I have a replacment mag or two?
P.S. I proboly should have put this In the shotgun section but I thought there would he a greater knowledge base regarding magazine here.
I would shoot it and not worry about if the mag will wear out. If you abuse it, it will be like anything else and break. Use it like a normal person and you shouldnt have any issues for many years.
