CZ 527 in 7.62x39mm anyone use one?

I did not shoot surplus in mine. I did hear that the CZ did have a light hammer strike. Fine for commercial ammo but not super reliable with surplus. Again that is what I have heard. No practical experience.

This was covered a few days ago. 7.62x39 and .308 are two different cartridges.
So check before you buy as something doesn't sounds right.

.308 is a caliber, not a cartridge.

.308 caliber cartridges include:

.30-30
.300 Savage
.308 Winchester
.30-06 Springfield
.300 WSM
etc

.311 is also a caliber. Cartridges include:

7.62x39
.303 British
etc

Some 7.62x39 ammo uses a .308 caliber bullet. SOme use a .311 caliber bullet.

SOme 7.62x39 chambered rifles use .308 caliber bores, some use .310 or .311 caliber bores.

And not only that Calum my RCBS 7.62X39 die set came with expander buttons for both dia. bullets....:p
y2k I don't have Czech ammo but my CZ 527 shoots Norico surplus just fine...I have seen on another forum (see below) where a fellow was showing targets using both .308 and .311 bullets with the same accuracy...So really I see no excuse for you not buying one of these little rifles other than those stupid mags/clips that hang down below the stock line...:D

Have you tried 308 bullets in your CZ527?

I did a test awhile back and found NO measurable accuracy difference between .308 and .311 diameter bullets. I attribute this to the CZ's .300 BORE diameter (note bore dia. not groove dia. eh)

I have a couple cases of Czech surplus and would like to get this rifle but not until I know if it will work reliabley in it.

I have not fired Czech through mine but have put 80 rounds of Norinco surplus non-corrosive ammo through it with not a single problem. Also fired a box of Wolf JHP as well. Everything fired just fine.

Will this rifle work with surplus ie, czech ammo and hard military primers?

I didn't know that the Czech military ammo has hard primers...were did you get this info?..

Madtrapper143's above post states that he heard that the CZ's did have a light primer strike, something else I didn't know...

I am learning a lot of stuff here.....

So if you want to find out rather the CZ made in Czechoslovakia will fire Czech military ammo send me 100 rds. and I will fire it in my CZ527 and report back to you....Just trying to help here eh? :D

Not ALL CZ's had light hammer (striker) strikes. Apparently it was just a few and CZ USA provided heavier strikers springs to remedy the problem. There is a US site (forum) that speaks of this. Google CZ and look for it for more info.

I have seen them take firing pin rebound kisses that would have set off a regular primer.

Put it this way...All SKS carbines hit the primers hard...so one needs to buy a firing pin return spring kit. Or reload with CCI arsenal primers. If you don't you are risking a nasty slamfire surprise. :D

Madtrapper143...thanks for your reply...I bought my CZ527 used so if there was a problem with a weak firing pin spring then the previous owner must have replaced it....

Calum...Have you ever fired Czech military ammo in a CZ527 7.62X39?...

y2k...
Here is a thread on AccurateRekloading with a discussion about problems with some surplus ammo...Before buying one of these rifles ask the dealer if he has access to CZUSA's parts counter...From what I have read in the past on CZUSA'S website CZUSA won't sell directly to Canadians...maybe Canadian dealers I don't know...they are fun little rifles, but would be useless if they wouldn't fire your ammo stash......good luck!
