Here's one to stir the pot a bit. Thanks to an old riding injury, I find that I can't handle a regular grip size, can't hit the mag release without turning the gun in my hand. I have shot / tried the following 9mm pistols:
Glock 17
Glock 19
S&W 3904
S&W 659
Tarus 92
Norc 34
SIG 226 and 220 euro release.
Para LTC
Para LDA
STI GP 6
Colt 1911
Ruger DA only
Browning Hi Power & FEG DA/SA copy
CZ 75 & 85
forgot to add Norc 213.

Still have the 19, the LTC, and really liked the GP6. Nice, but not quite perfect. I was wondering about 2 other guns though. The SIG 225 single stack ( or whatever they call the single stacker SIG 9) and the HK 2000 version that Wolverine sells. Looking specifically at narrow grip, compact size, easy to operate mag release for a shorter thumb and good trigger pull. Any one out there have some experience with these 2 in comparison to any of the above that they would like to share? Let's hear what you figure.

Is it just about the slimmer grip mostly? Cause the glock offers an extended mag release which I find pretty decent.

Get a pistol that has the mag release located mounted under the trigger guard and can be operated with an index finger (i.e. various HKs and Walther P99). Newer HKs, such as P2000 and P30L have fairly slim grips, as does the P99.

Slimmer grip seems to work better for me, GP 6 is nice, I can use trigger finger to release, standard 1911 is a bit tough, but with a extension lever added, works great, 19 is close, but still requires a bit of a twist. The GP 6 is sweet, but has a goofy take down/ reassembly, 19 is a close second, along with the 213. That's why I had looked at the HK 2000. But another gunnut friend with hands a bit smaller than mine really loves his SIG 225, which is why I put it on the list.

One of my daughters has abnormally short thumbs (in proportion to her fingers), in addition to small hands.

Not much that she has been able to do about it, other than really twist the gun or just use her left hand/thumb on the eject button. She has gotten pretty good at using her left thumb on the mag button and it really doesn't slow her down much.

She usually shoots a Baby Eagle (CZ copy) or a Steyr M9-A1. She also found the Browning Hi Power very comfortable to shoot, it has a small grip.

There is no question that the one she likes the best is a P7 where she can use her right index finger on the mag release.

Thumb dexterity, high sided a motorcycle some years back and most things healed well, but a couple didn't. Minor PITA, but thought I would see what people's thoughts were on those which I haven't beel lucky enough to play with.

If its a thumb problem you could use your weak hand on the release or use your strong hand trigger or index finger on an ambi mag release.

I know a shooter who ran the mag release reversed with her trigger finger on an M&P for a while.

Try a g17, and extend the mag release the part is about $15.00 and easy to install.
the HK usp series is under the trigger guard, so an index finger can be used.

Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm??? Comes standard with three different grips. Easy to change, I can go from medium (me) to small (wife) in about 30 seconds.

Maybe you should take a look at the Springfield XD-9. I find that it has a relatively narrow grip (compared to a Sig P226 at least). It also has an ambidextrous mag release so you can operate it with your right index finger.

I think you would find the HK P30L perfect as it meets your criteria. HK Ambi may release, decocker with your thumb and 3 removeable grip thickness panels, small, med and large to customize the fit to your hand.

+1 - I also run the mag release reversed (on the right hand side of the gun) it's quick, easy, idiot proof (trust me :D) and once you're used to it you actually wish other guns came the same way. Also your hand doesn't move at all dropping a mag, just your finger.
