Coming soon:

I am considering having a longer +2 mag tube installed as soon as I nail down what's involved to make it happen.

Sweet!

The only other mod I'd suggest would be a one piece Happy Trigger from Wild West Guns/Cabelas. Mine is so light and crisp, I have to warn guys before they try it for the first time.

I don't about the tube extension, that's your call, but it looks like your headed in the right direction. You may want to think about an aftermarket lever, as most find the factory one too small. DRC makes one, as well as others. Brownell's is a good place to check out.

Ports were eliminated a few years ago. Pretty useless on cartridges with such a dramatic bore expansion ratio.
Ditto on the WW trigger kit, amazing. Don't know about the mag extension; if it won't go down with 4 .45-70 rounds, you are in trouble anyway!

yeah I have mine on order now, also the nice red hi viz aluminum follower looks nice as well.

Nice, I just pulled very similar sights off of mine and the same scout rail and Buris HandGun scope. I was on a mission to find original sights. Found them. I then bought a 1 piece Leupold stainless base with quick detach rings. To top it off, a nice VX111 3.5x8x36 silver scope.
Removed the sights, scout rail, bubba'd stock replacing with a new stock, above parts and a nice stainless happy trigger. I still need to polish the stainless to make it look like new.

What # was the Limbsaver, I need to order one, but I am not sure what # to order?

From what I've read it is pretty easy. Order a long tube (one from a 45-70 Cowboy) from Marlin, about 20.00. Cut to length. Cut a new dovetail in the barrel and install.

I have read the same and it sounds easy enough, but I would like to see pictures and talk with guys that have done it.

On the other hand... I could buy two just in case I hack the first one :nest:

On 'Marlin Owners' there are orders being taken for a carbon fiber tube magazine replacement. Runs about $ 100.00 I think. http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php/topic,43650.0.html

Best part is theres no gunsmithing required

Many Marlin come from the factory with heavy trigger, a local gunsmith did a couple trigger jobs for me on my 1895G and 1894 for $40.00 each. Much needed and much improved.

Cheers

Seabass.

No doubt useless, but I bought mine back in 99 or 2000 & haven't really pay attention to the new ones. Thanks for the info.

Well since we seem to be of like mind, I'd like to share my 45-70 GG:

I got a XS Lever Rail system with Ghost Sights fitted for a solid back up to my scope.

Since I'm left eye dominate but right handed I got a Aimpoint Red Dot Scope, the CompC3 2X (1MOA dot).

A Limbsaver pad is also installed because the stock unit should be called a recoil amplifier :(

Added a good 2-point sling and a ammo cuff (good for 9 rounds) to round out the package.

Future mods include a extended tube (you can never have enough ammo), a trigger job and a one-piece extractor.

I had a ported model, but immediately sold and re-purchased when they came out unported.
This is stainless with Duracoat. DRC lever, WW Trigger Happy kit, WW Bearproof ejector, WW Hi-Vis follower, Brockman Ghost Ring rear sight, Tritium front sight, WW Scout Scope mount, Burris 2.75 EER scope, Leupold QD rings, WW Kevlar stocks, bedded, painted with Endura (by me!), Eagle cheekpad/ammo carrier/pouch, Pachmayr Decelerator, action polished/de-burred. There may be something else, but can't think of anything...:D
