Hunting black Bear, Is the 30 06 enough? I'm shooting 180 gr Partitions. Range out to 200 yrds.

30-06 has killed every game animal on the planet.

You're fine with your 180gr partitions to pretty much do the same for North American game. Maybe go for good quality solids if you're planning on shooting rhinos or elephants however.

Thank you for the results! I felt it was enough gun, just so many guys shooting magnums these days a wasn't sure if the black bears were getting tougher than when my grand father shot them with his 30-30 win with one shot kills or not? (wink)

Took my last bear with a win super x 170grain silver tip in 30-30, single shot and it dropped on the spot. 30-06 with a 180 grain partition should do:p

I've shot 9 black bears with a .30-06 using Federal "Blue-Box" 180 grain ammo. The farthest one has gone after being shot was 50 feet. Most of them expired in less than 10 feet. All were one shot kills.

.30-06 with 180 Partitions should do just fine.

You don't need to go as heavy as a 180gr bullet my 30-06 go to loads were 165gr bullets resulted in flatter trajectories and higher retained energy, you don't need a premium bullet the velocities of the 30-06 don't need them.
