I woud like to get a CX4 but I only have PAL not RPAL, can I buy a longer barrel for it, send it to Elwood Epps, get them to put it on a restricted and reclassifiy and then transfer it to me? (Obviously I would have to pay for the restricted, but it would not be transfered to me until it was classified non-restricted).

Anyone know if I can do this?

You can call epps and ask them to take a CX4 out of their inventory and mod it for you and they will transfer it to you as a non res. You will have to pay for it first. When I did it, it was never registered to me as a restricted they only transfered it to me after it was classified as a non res.

Mr Smitty is correct. We (Epps) can re-barrel a CX4 Storm to Non-Restricted status for approximately $500.00 above the cost of the gun ($1,121.00 for the rifle itself). Right now our gunsmiths require 4-6 weeks to fabricate and reblue a barrel. Once the barrel is installed, we re-register the gun to Non-Restricted, then transfer it to you under that status.

As noted, however, you will have to pay for the gun and the labour in advance in order to secure your purchase of this gun.

Contact Kevin at Epps for more details.

Thanks for the reply, I was wondering if I could send the barrel in (purchased from somewhere else, 19" 9mm) or do I have to purchase the barrel from you?

I have my RPAL upgrade application, just haven't sent it in yet. Yes, I got a CX-4 re-classified as a non-restricted to be sold to me as a "wood plinker".

So let's no go judging people as to why they want a range-only gun (regardless of selected user name). ;)

When you've got time you should challenge the test for your RPAL.

Some people simply don't want to own rifles that their only two homes are the safe and the car ride to the range. It has nothing to do with license status. Pistols and AR's are a lost cause (other than the AR180B) so no amount of modding will change their status. But rifles like the Ruger PC9, Beretta CX4 Storm, M1 Carbine, etc. that are only classified as restricted by barrel length alone deserve the opportunity to head out to Crown land for some target shooting or out to the field for varmint/rodent hunting. It's not a bash to restricted rifles or pistols, it's simply exercising the right to choose in a hobby/sport here in Canada that has VERY LITTLE CHOICES to start with.

Why do you think so many of us are pining for a Colt M4 .22 rifle non-restricted? I still remember going in the bush in Sandilands here in Manitoba in 1989 with an AR15 to target shoot without any fear of being batoned or bootphucked by an RCMP officer. Today doing that would get you put in jail. I am looking forward to being able to <almost> do that again.

Does anyone have a picture of a non-restricted CX4? How much longer is the barrel?

Do you have to pin the mag for 5 rounds?

Invalid, PM me and I will get you a photo of mine later today unless someone here beats me to the punch.

Since they take pistol mags no they don't have to be pinned as the CX4 magazines can be used in a 92F. (pistol)

I am looking forward to taking mine rodent hunting this summer.

The CX4 is a super-fun gun... the only weakness is the crap-tastic sights they come with (i.e. plastic) and the cost they are now (I remember when they were <$1000 guns).

Non-Restricted is even better, but again at the cost. However, there is nothing else out there comparable, so I suppose it could be worse.

I have yet to put any optics on mine and with the peep sight I am able to hit a 6" gong at 50m no problem and 8" plates 9/10 times in rapid shoot.

Also considering I am a lefty, being able to switch around the ejection port is a major plus.
