I need some help with my Luger.

Please point me at the best person (gunsmith) who knows their Luger stuff inside and out.

The side plate on my gun is the only non original piece, and I think it is ill-fitted. The lever inside the sideplate will not properly engage and release the gun, when it is cocked. The top end works fine, and can be (dry)fired by pressing on the lever on the left side of the slide. I just can't get the gun to fire using the trigger, when the whole works is assembled.

Might try to buy an original sideplate, and hope for better luck.

thoughts?
best source for parts?
best collector to speak with about the problem?
best gunsmith to handle the issue?

Please help me if you can.

They sell luger parts, and is an excellent gunsmith.
He only excepts guns for repairs through the mail now.

Chris,

First you have to make sure the sideplate fits right. No loose, especially under the locking bolt. There should be no problem with the plate as mismatched / replacement sideplates most often fit correctly.

The trigger lever is the ``ill fitting one``. " Areas of engagement are: top part pushes the sear bar plunger towards the inside of the pistol. Bottom part fits in between the ``2 flat bars`` on the trigger. There might be your problem: the tip of the trigger lever should be resting on the bottom part of the top bar of the trigger. It should not be loose with play in between the a bars. If you have some play there what happens in that when you pull the trigger some mouvement is wasted from the start, then the bottom part of the ``L`` lever engages in the trigger, lever pivot pushing the top part on the sear bar plunger but not enough to release the firing pin as your trigger is now at his rearmost position...This could be your problem as I've seen this often on ``mis-matched`` Lugers...Solution would be to raise the tip of the lower part of the trigger lever....can be done is several ways.

I hope this doesnt sound complicated to you....Feel free to PM me ......I've been playing with & collecting Lugers for some years now.....

Keep us posted on developpements, Mk
