Norinco M14s front sight skewed to the left

Hi guys,

i have a Norinco M14s where its front sight skewed to the left.

can i easily adjust it myself?

what are the tools and steps invloved?

Thanks!

Post a picture so that we can figure out what you are talking about. Could be indexing, could be a bad FH or could be loosen the cap screw and tap the sight over. What do you mean by "skewed to the left"?

Yep, we need more info.

If your entire sight, protective ears and all, are facing towards 11 o'clock, it's likely that your barrel indexing is off.

My front sight was pushed too far to the right. I loosened the set screw and using a small piece of wood, a hammer and a 1/4 inch piece of plywood as a base, tapped the front sight into the center of the dove tail.

Mine was staked way over to one side. I centred it,and am pleased to say I can now center the rear sight and shoot straight. No idea why they did what they did.

i have the pics, but can't upload it right now, as there seems to be an ftp issue with my ISP...

anyway, i think it is an indexing issue, because the entire sight, protective ears and all, are facing towards 11 o'clock.

how do i fix this indexing issue?

Hey major if you are free I can check it out for ya. M14Doctor showed me @ one of his clinic's on how to properly check if your sights are done correctly. I was @ one of his clinics and the rear sight line was total cut off center so they moved the front sight post to compensate. We all got a good laugh out of that one!

Odd, mine is a bit over to the left for sure and I can hit the gong 4 out of 5 at 200 yards open sights. I usually use a scope tho, then it matters not.

mine came new with the front sight set to the left. im going to try it this weekend at 100 and 200m to see if it needs to be adjusted to center.

Most of the reason's why the front sight was adjusted far to one side or another is that the line going down the rear sight was cut off center. The only way to see if this problem was indeed happening on your rifle is to remove the rear sight assmebly and exam the cut line. Not difficult but if no one has shown how to properly do this you could screw up your rear sight. As for gnmontey and your barrel. It will be some time before the end of this week M14Doctor should have his computer back up and working so I am sure he will have something to say. Also Hungry would also be a great person to PM as they both have vast knowledge about these rifles. I would like to help you out but I have never delt with this before and that would make any comment's I have pointless.

[As for gnmontey and your barrel. .

My bbl doesn't have a problem. Was asking majormarine to comment on my alignment observation. He is the one that may have an indexing issue. Observing how well the hand guard clip slot aligns with the flat on the reciever may provide a reliable measure of indexing, or NOT. I'm looking for confirmation of this observation.

hi gnmontey,i cant comment on yours

Let me reword this.......

How well does the hand guard clip slot align with the reciever flat on your rifle? Please check this prior to having any indexing changes made and let me know your observation.

Thanks,

C

Oh sorry,
gnmontey I thought that you were wondering why when you had it re-index that the set screw was never placed back and if this would leed to needing to re-indexing in the future.
