build custom 10/22 from scratch?

if you've got the skill...

If you have the tools and skill....why not build some 50 cal's from scratch...why try and build what can be bough for $250...when you could build something taht isn't available for under 5k!!

Way to go guys. Here's a gentleman you know nothing about, talking about making something in Canada. Perhaps he has the means to actually make receivers, (like a 10/22 is such a complex reciever anyway) wouldn't it be nice to actually have a Canadian manufacturer?

But let's ridicule him some more before we go off to whine in another thread about why we rely on other countries for stuff and how hard it is to get.......

A lot of truth here.

Tyffty, if you have the skill and the machine shop equipment to do so, have at it! Nothing like the personal satisfaction of building something completley yourself.
Keep in mind though, that you are doing it for fun, not for savings.
If you can buy a used 10-22 cheap, and a machine shop costs $90 per hour or more, it wouldn't take long to not save anything.

I was not joking either, I want a billet stainless 10/22 receiver.
This actually has allot to do with my question on the similarities between a 10/22 and a Harley.
If I could buy a decent receiver, I could put my original 10/22 back together and have another rifle.
I have seen them for sale in the States for $300+-. And there are even complete blue prints on the web as well.
 
Oh yeah don't forget to get the OK from the "Gubment"........

You do know it's illegal to "manufacture" a firearm in your "garage"........ that is what you will be doing if you make a reciever for a 10/22.......

On the otherhand....... If you do make them (and get licensed) I am good for 1.... maybe 2.

its not just the reciver most pepole will keep the blot and triger pack. pins and springs also i dont think you would be saving money of course a high tolerance SS reciver with integrated rail would sell

has to be serialed numbered and regristered.. Id look into that frist and when you see all the pains to do it you wont want to build it no more..
 
I remember a few years ago a shop in the US selling receiver/bolt/trigger groups for $100US... I should have gone through the paperwork...

This been said, a steel receiver would be nice... Didn't AMT produce one for a while?

It IS legal to manufacture a firearm in your garage without a business license, as long as you do not intend to sell it... and that you register it when it becomes a receiver.

Sorry. After "re-inventing the wheel" and "cheaper to just buy one" I guess my opinion just spiralled out of control.

I apologize.

Plus I figured it would get me a few brownie points for the first few receivers to roll off the line.......;):D
