So, I have been thinking a lot lately about trading my hunting rifle (Tikka T3 stainless synthetic in 22-250) for a non-restricted black rifle.

I would want it to be semi-auto for the multi-gun matches and would like the closest resemblance to the AR platform as possible

I saw the thread on non-restricted black guns, but was wondering if there are any other options.

I think this kind of trade would involve some cash on my part, but I am not worried about that.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I really like the look of the M14 with updated stocks and what not. BTW, it has to be non-restricted as it is replacing my hunting rifle. I also prefer a small caliber like .223

Thanks

Swiss Arms, you won't give up much practical accuracy and they are as 'cool' as it gets in a non-restricted rifle.

If you are patient, and suffer from chronic lower back pain from sitting on a thick wallet, consider the Tavor.
I was really impressed when I was able to test the sample rifle that CanAm was circulating.

Tavor + RRA AR-15 10rnd pistol mags.
Swiss Arms Black Special (limited to 5 rnd mags)
H&K SL8 (limited to 5rnd mags)

The Swiss Arms Black Special in a Target edition would be the most accurate IMO.

Look at the Ruger Mini-14 if you want a non-restricted .223Rem (although I heard they're sh*t). An M-14 would be an excellent choice, if you got the coin look at the Springfield M1A in MossyOak synthetic stock...WOW.

AR-15 would be the ultimate black rifle you can get your hands on...simply marverlous :)

Everyone needs to get an AR - C7 is our service rifle! (whether you agree it or not....)

If they AR was derestricted, I wouldn't even hesitate. I might end up getting an AR with next years tax refund anyways. The service rifle competitions seem like a lot of fun.

Silly logic from our fearless leader.
If that were the case, we ought to have voted Liberal.

But yes, do get an AR.
I picked up a Norinco M4 yesterday and I know want a tactical vest of some to go with it.

If you do get an AR. Do get a Norinco.

I have been thinking a lot about this recently. At under $900, it seems like a good place to start.

I started my black rifle addiction with a CQ311. Had it and learned from it what i really wanted. Bought an Armalite then and have just finished building an ATR-15 from Alberta Tactical Rifle.
This stuff should come with a warning label its so addictive.

I too am "addicted" and need my next fix.
A .22 upper sounds in order with the price of .223

My M14S is very jealous, and is planning a summer putsch.
