Ok I'm starting the new build I bought a Boyds Blaster stock in sky blue, And now looking for a WhistlePig blue barrel. the next thing is to work on my action, I can only afford $50. from Rimfiresports this paycheck what should I get first for the action? or in general what should I do to the action. since the kids are using this I was thinking of a 3lb. - 2.5lb. trigger

Barry at bits and pieces...... Hell tell ya what you need to do when you tell him what you want the end result to be. He carries all the parts you need, and he carries a few brands of barrels as well. I just got a Green Mountain barrel from him and a bunch of trigger parts...... Very good guy to deal with.....

I am kinda old school...... I called and left a message, he called back right away.... We talked for about 35min..... the end result.... about $517 incl. shipping, and I now have a 16" GM barrel, new hammer, sear, disconector, auto bolt release, firing pin, bolt buffer and extended bolt handle.

Cheers!

Now we know why your a "not-so-rich-guy" :p :D

Your going to like the end result. Like night and day over OEM

Do the trigger yourself using the stock components. Costs you nothing but time and works as good as, IMHO better, than all the aftermarket stuff.

VQ target hammer (or a match hammer & sear if you can afford a little more :) )

I can afford more, just over time I will get more this project will take a few paycheck to do not a big rush. just looking for a starting point what I should do first and maybe what I should Not waste my time & money on.
if you have any tips great. What I can say is any trigger under 2lbs. will not be good for my kids.

Any thoughts on the barrel length:?: the barrel comes in 16”, 17”, 18”, 20”, 22” & 24" Barrel Lengths. I was thinking 18" or 20"

as for parts Power Custom, Kid, Skeeter, VQ :?: just not sure which yet that was one of the reasons I was asking.

If it's for the kids then just work the trigger yourself until you are comfortable with it.
As for the barrel, keep it to the 16" so there isn't as much weight. Kids love to plink and a long barrel doesn't make unsupported firing very easy.

Grant

Make me dig out the recipt........

GM 16", Blued Fluted barrel.... $187.
Power Custom Bolt Handle..... $52
Power Custom Match Hammer Sear Kit...... $108
VQ Titanium extractor....... $18 x2
VQ Match disconector........$37
VQ Auto Bolt release...... $19
Tuffer Buffer 3pak....... $12
Postage ......... $17
Taxes .............$23

I agree with Grantmac, a 16" is perfect. I tried a 20" first (its up on the EE now) and I didn't want a bench gun so it was a little front heavy for walking and "off Hand" shooting.

I felt a 14" was too short, although a 14" barrel would be acceptable IMO. As far as accuracy is concernd a 12" is probably good but I just think its a rife not a pistol, if you know what I mean. Unless a SMG look is what you are going for.

Look at the 10/22 sticky at the top of the Rimfire forum, lots of low buck trigger upgrades there, I tried them and I am better with wood than I am with metal..... so I bought new instead. Even the auto bolt release I tried was a failure in that it didn't work, it still "worked" but I didn't get the desired result.

I really wasn't kidding when i said call Barry @ Bits of Pieces...... Call him up tell him what you want to do and he will give you a list of parts and just call him up when you have the $$$ and he will ship them. I like to deal with guys in CA, as opposed to the US whenever I can, and the prices are reasonable too. I just re-looked at my recipt.... and the cost for all of the parts I just ordered was $481 inc. taxes & shipping. not the $517 I said earlier.

Cheers!

Heres a bit of #### for Ya!!!!!

Yup....16" is perfect. If your kids are younger, stay away from a bull/heavy barrel also.
It can get a little heavy too, if firing at targets all day unsupported.
Just food for thought.....

I got that... works well I had to wait for bearings I ordered after I got it but dam its nice.. and add an auto bolt realse you can mod the one in it if you just round the nub off thats all it is..
